I got kicked from the alliance about two minutes into the Diplomacy game playing as Africa. Surprisingly it worked out well; I managed to cripple Asia's radar sites and persuade NA and SA to join the crusade, sparing my navy and screwing over Asia. With combined might Europe was trashed... then the ...

Anyways, I disagree with having host able to kick people. Many instances of this in FPS games where you get kicked just for winning. Actually in a lot of FPS games which are hosted by dedicated servers, players have to vote to kick a player. The reasons for calling a vote are usually childish, but ...

There is a game option that doesn't allow defections. Other than that, you can quite easily leave an alliance by going to the "Allies" button.

The best solution I think is a voting system for kicking a player like in other games - somebody calls to kick a player, and then the rest vote on it. That way the host can't randomly kick whoever happens to be winning, but players can still deal with troublemakers. Ultra good example: in one of the...

All of this aside, exactly what way can you possibly stop this from actually occuring? Stop a USSR-Euro alliance? How the hell does that make sense? Sure some people might like that, but why should only USSR and Europe be affected? Why not tell NA and SA they can't ally and combine naval/radar might...

Totally agree with that. There is no way you can hold off three fleets if they come down on you all at once. Simple probability will take over and they'll have SOMETHING left while you'll have nothing. In any event, a few things you might want to try: - Hiding (as described) - Ally with somebody (so...

The Euro-USSR alliance is one of the better ones in the game, which makes it strategically important. That is not cheating. That is recognising a good opportunity. Hell, I do it all the time. The simple fact is that both players get so much out of the alliance that it's bound to be popular early on ...

Part of DEFCON is a certain amount of luck. Although a large part is skill, there's always the chance that the game will roll a 1 and the missile won't die, destroying your otherwise perfect attack. You could add in missile arcs, but what does that tell you apart from that the missile ends up taking...

Leave it to the last minute, but if they're smart they'll get nervous about nukes heading towards them and break their alliance themselves, purely for defence.

Nuclear winter = particles from nuclear explosions preventing the sun to heat up the earth. -your normal T° + around -20° (estimated from a russia vs usa nuking) so its proportional to the number of nuke, and in defcon theres wayyy tooo manyy nukess. -destroyed ozone = get ur skin to the sun and ul...

Then the robots take over?

We've been over adding Australia... it's been done. Question is how it screws up game balance.

Nevermind. We'll just leave the silos in air defence mode, park subs off the coast and wait for him to launch. Then we'll have everyone hit the silos and the cities, and he'll ragequit. Then Africa will backstab the USA, the host will leave the game (ragequit #2) and it'll be game over.
