Hmm, that is odd. I changed my ports to UDP and tried hosting. It didnt work. Then I tried putting all my ports to 0 in the defcon settings and hosting again. Connection within a few minutes and had a good game. Thanks for the tip of putting these equal to 0. Maybe this means my ISP blocks those ori...

Thanks for that estel. This is now rather embarassing. Upon re-examining my router settings it appears I was forwarding the ports in TCP mode not UDP as the game requires  I will let this serve as a lesson to myself to double check ALL settings before starting a thread. Thanks everybody for yo...

Well I just tried hosting a game called "UK - speed defcon" for about 10 minutes and had nobody join at all. I've tested the defcon ports on the Azureus NAT testing utility and it reports they are all open. Perhaps I'll have to try going outside the firewall to host a game.... though the t...

be sure if youre behind a router to set all your network port settings to "0" so the game will find the most available way through your router without port forwarding. :) Do you mean set the ports used in defcon to 0? i.e go into game options and set them to 0 or are you talking about som...

When creating a game, how long roughly before people join?

Hi, I've been playing defcon fine by joining other games with virtually no problems aside from the occasional high latency / disconnect. When I'm trying to create my own game nobody ever seems to join it. Perhaps I'm just being impatient, but: 1. How long roughly should I expect to wait for people t...

Plasmoid, in my very limited experience with online gaming there are some very strange behaviours amongst some people. You just have to accept that you will encounter some of this weirdness, and hope that the majority of your games are with decent, upstanding folk like the members of this forum :win...

I'm off on holiday for a week in May. I will be most upset if I get back to find I'd been accepted for the beta, then rejected due to inactivity in my absence.
I'll have to nominate a deputy.

Ah well, I haven't received any email yet so I assume my services are not required. I will have to get some kind of beta testing qualification or improve my bribing technique I think. May go for the Big Bob Joylove method: "I'm not in the beta? Ohhh.. I get ya.. (produces large wad of cas...

How does beta tester selection work? AKA. PUT ME IN BETA FREELOADER NEED FREE GAMES! Au contraire, I would be perfectly willing to part with my cash for the privilege of playing a beta version. I've already expressed an interest in pre-ordering the game as I think the more money that IV gets, the l...

According to Icepick, IV has already selected the beta testers, WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE! (besides the selectees). So, if no one's told you you're a beta tester, you're not. Hmm, well that seems to contradict the first reply. If IV randomly picked forum members as beta testers, it would seem that peo...

How does beta tester selection work?

I'm sure the majority of the people who frequent these boards would like to beta test defcon should the opportunity arise. I'm just curious as to how IV have run their beta programs in the past, do you register your interest and IV then pick the testers at random? Or is there some other selection pr...

Amused me for a moment anyway. Not enough to satisfy my Defcon cravings though... may be time for a bit of galciv 2 to distract myself

Right, thanks for the info. Come to think of it, it's probably a silly time to post that question seeing as the devs are currently in the USA.

Arrg, what can I play to fill the time until Defcons release?

I'm looking forward to this game far too much, hope there is a beta or a demo in April.
