I always leave Cairo to burn. I've tried the "two silo's @ Cairo" defence before. In general these 2 silo's are scouted out easily, and nuked cleanly. Cairo is then obliterated. Personally I prefer to hide Africa's Silo's within the continent so they have a better chance at actually gettin...

Just to clarify, these are the speeds I use: Defon5=1x Defcon4=5x Defcon3, 2, 1 =1x After Decon1 I go 1x for at least 20- 40 minutes than 5x as needed. Just a heads up, I tried out "Paranoia Mode" tonight. It turned out to be an awsome game with everyone expecting to get stabbed in the back. I took hit Africa hard and smashed Russia's silo's (I was Asia) in the initial backstab, but then everyone teamed up on me to make me pay for my crim...

Imagine being the US and having to get your nukes through Europe to get your secret enemy the Russians. The backdoor deals would be awsome ... maybe Europe agrees to let your nukes through ... if you take out a few silo's of your African ally hehe..

I love this idea a big two thumbs up.

A list will help but in the end unless there is organization it will be extremely difficult getting everyone into the same game ... especially with the fairly crappy/nonexistant lobby filter options.

Actually I think if you put everyone in different teams then select the "Permit Defection" to OFF it becomes a no alliances game, right? Indeed, it takes away the "Ask to join alliance" button. You can make a true FFA game this way, where the only diplomacy is private chat. The ...

The worst are the people that drop out just because things are going badly for them ... notably these people are usually the speed freaks. I never really realized how spoiled/sheltered I was in the Penny Arcade games ... on the metaserver it seems like you have half a community of nice mature people...

I've been playing mostly with my Penny Arcade mates, and we tend to run games like this ... real time during defcon 5 - 4 until everyone has their shit placed. Then we move to X5 for the rest of the game. Occasionally somebody will go to real time ... Personally I have no problem with that, generall...

I play with the assumption that EVERYONE is an enemy -- including my allies. This drastically effects where I place silo's.

In this game if you show weakness on any front ... your ally may decide not to be your ally anymore.

personally I don't see backstabbing as "half the game". I didn't come to this party specificly to betray people. "Everyone dies" is Defcon, "trust is a weakness" is uplink. I've hosted games where people have allied up or not and there have been alliance drops and back...
