As far as im aware its strong point isn't 3D movements but that can be written in C/C++ anyway. that may be, main-thing ruby misses is an JIT but hey, for 95% of things the speed is ok :) Certainly, I develop mainly in Perl these days which is certainly not the fastest language out there. Perl is good for web applications isn't it? Not sure about the suitability of it in general purpose progr...
