It's a bit slow for me too, although I gather that even in Windows Multiwinia can be a resource-hog.

(I suspect that it's not just the graphics that are a resource drain - there's a lot of Multiwinians on the maps towards the end of a game.)

Well, you could try installing ALSA and using that with Wine, I suppose. I'm not sure what it is that OSS isn't providing to the Wine DirectSound system that Multiwinia wants.

I know - I tried disabling sound myself when I was debugging the problem, and it still crashed like that. Making the changes to winecfg also fixed the crashes with sound set to none - it appears that, even with sound set to none, Multiwinia will still crash from a misconfigured Wine sound setting...

Yeah, that's basically what we were getting. It appears that whatever Multiwinia expects from DirectSound is only doable by Wine under particular circumstances - we got it working with ALSA, dmix and Full hardware acceleration for DirectSound, but I've not played with OSS for ages. It does appear, n...

Shouldn't do - I didn't.

Are you getting the same DirectSound crash as Slayerno1 and I were getting?
If so, can you tell us what sound driver and WaveOut you're set to in Wine as well? (ALSA is what I have, using dmix:0 which should be the default, I think.)

It's very very simple, Jazz Ad: for Multiwinia to work properly in Wine, the DirectSound Hardware Acceleration setting needs to be "Full". It probably defaults to this, hence the fact that you've not had a problem. Indeed, you can stop reading right now, since you don't need to know what I...

Hardware Acceleration to "Full" in Winecfg's DirectSound settings fixes this for several people, including me.

Just to note that Sulix and I (with some help from Rkiver) have solved this.

In winecfg, setting Hardware Acceleration to "Full" stops the crashes, even if your sound is set to "none".

Well, even after updating to the latest graphics drivers for my card (that's something else to compare - I'm using an nVidia 8800 GT with the 177.78 series beta drivers currently) and setting SoundDriver to "none" in preferences.txt, I still get a crash at the same place (it looks like it ...

Unfortunately, I checked the AppDB entry first - it's not particularly useful. I do wonder if PulseAudio is the issue here - it wouldn't be the first time that there's been an issue with that breaking Wine. (As for the linux version - I'm hoping I can gank the game data from the Steam version and us...

Do you have any custom alterations to your Wine install? The full version (in Steam) of Multiwinia crashes on my Ubuntu 8.04 64bit box with Wine 1.1.5... so there's either a difference between the demo and the full version, or something different about our configurations.

I have exactly the same problem as Slayerno1 - I get a DSound error when trying to launch multiwinia from Steam in Wine, but fixing this by using software sound results in the game crashing anyway. On the other hand, others seem to have had no problems getting Multiwinia to work in Wine - can we nar...

Other than that, I would be interested to look at the statistics for the number of recorded gender identity crises over time. Because they've obviously become more prevalent, so one would presume that previously any such characteristics must have either been beaten out of them or presented themselv...

Not for those people, no. For people who argue that mediums can speak to the dead, it does. ... Of course it does. If you state that something is the basis for an argument, and then disprove that basis, you have destroyed that argument. This sheds no light on the issue of whether or not an afterlif...

Certainly that's a more inclusive interpretation. On the other hand, the fact that every medium who claimed to be channeling these people's spirits was wrong does suggest that a large fraction of mediums are fakes, even if they seem plausible. I don't understand your point. That's neither here nor ...
