7 fps?! What graphics card? I'm using quadtrees for visibility, so if you look straight down, or away towards and edge, the fps should go up. Also, there is a crappy looking tree right under where the camera starts. I've included the source, so if anyone wants to continue this, they can go ahead.

I could not get it to compile with 1.0.2902, so I compiled it with 1.0.2907.

2.0.50727 is the DirectX 10 version, currently only software rendering unless you have a DirectX 10 capable card.

Try installing the latest DirectX runtime and check if the following folder exists-
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code\1.0.2908\

If not, I will compile a version for you using 1.0.2902 as Direct3DX is loaded after Direct3D, so I think you have the 1.0.2902 version.

If it is not working, download & install the latest DirectX runtime and the .NET 2.0 framework.

Note, to run this when it is done, you will need the .NET 2.0 Framework, and possibly the latest version of DirectX.

I'm not sure what .dll files do I need to include for DirectX, so could I have a volunteer tester who has the .NET 2.0 framework and no DirectX SDK installed?

Thanks, xander The heightmaps I am using are in this format http://www.linuxgraphic.org/section3d/blender/pages/didacticiels/paysages/images/tutorial01-heightmap.jpg Where black is the lowest level and white is the highest level. Water exists over any part of the heightmap under RGB(16,16,16)

I have waves working. I am going to make a settings dialog box (The initial load form is currently just a Start button), make trees (How simple that sounds), and release the source code.

I would really like more posts here. :)

Right now, I have a solid idea on how to make waves, I'm just about to implement it, and a fairly good idea on how to do trees, need a bit of more time to do trees.

No, I don't mind if you port my code, but I won't be releasing the source code until I am further along in development, with fractal trees and per-vertex water waves. If you would like any help, you can just ask me. :)

It should be able to compile. VB Express has a fully functional compiler.

My next screenshot should be of trees. :)

Thanks What should I add next? Trees? Who made Darwinia's sky, I think it is randomly generated (mine is) I'm not loading tiles, I'm reading stuff off a heightmap. If anyone has a heightmap they would like me to use, post it here as the one I am using is not very detailed. It is mostly flat land wit...
