Avast rocks.

AND it doesn't interfere with uplink ;)

I hear you about McAfee.. I used to love it. But it got the "moneymaking company syndrome".... if you get my drift.

too bad.

Actually my question was - I did crack the ARC machine, but I don't remember if I tried it with the dead agent's password (pointless, when you know they don't work, right?)... do I have to? I'm just past that point in the story... well I guess I'll just skip a couple days and see.

To this American car bashing, I say (as you brits would say) bollocks. I hate it when someone acts as if a car is automatically superior because it’s from a certain manufacturer. Each company (and their divisions) in each country are producing cars for different groups. I hate to use a cliché, but ...

Well, I don't know enough to make any statements about this... basically I know the average speed on italian highways for most high-mileage drivers is 160km (=100miles)... but that's beyond the speed limit. I was answering a post mentioning US people drive on 45-65 mph roads and considering that hig...

Stews are you sure about your figures? 100k miles per year means 160k km per year, which means about 450 km each day, including saturdays, sundays, christmas, new year's eve and so on. Truck drivers can do that, in europe as well, but... normal drivers? 3000km every week is a LOT. In Italy the avera...

Do u have to try the agent's access data for the storyline to start?

I don't remember if I tried to crack it right away without trying the access code.

Most highways in the US top off at 55-65mph, and most overdrive gears seem to be tuned to work well at those speeds (though it will kick in as soon as 35 mph to save gas while prowling around off the highway). Keep in mind that if you make the gear ratio too small you wouldn't be able to accelerate...

I might. But after all why should I? There have been online versions of just about everything including the crossfire rpg. Uplink should need to be redone from scratch of course, since it's not copylefted (GPL) or open source. And I don't have the code anyway. But hey, I need a project, I'm getting ...

Ok I'm beating a dead horse. There's somethg no one seems to have mentioned here, that IMO would refute Roboto's claim. The whole cyberpunk culture is about corporations and corporate employees being the "haves", while the 'punks are the "havenots". Corp employees are in small controlled enclaves, w...

To all those complaining about microsuck... well, if you're in the US, you're screwed. If you're outside the US... don't worry. Since their patent is basically illegal in other countries, they won't be able to enforce any protection outside it (correct me if I'm wrong, "resident lawyer" ;p). Of cour...

Personally, I like the sound of "doomed". You can't go home happy if you didn't say doomed at least a couple times. So, I'm gonna go and post on that rant - all of you are warned ;) - before it's doomed to oblivion. ReflectingGod: I seriously doubt that every possible question has been posted. But i...

I don't have enough knowledge of japanese situation/story but I had the impression it had been a process that started after WW2 and worked japan into modernity and competitiveness in 40-50 years. Am I wrong?

Darksun, Flamekebab: I get your point - and agree. Pretty useless and stupid. But StKenjutsushi (or whatever his name is) got "reprimanded" for adding some of his own (and I personally think it wasn't null-content) to an old topic (Roboto's rant: Neuromancer Rating) - to which I would also have some...

Actually, you can't copyright an algorythm (in europe). You can not copyright ideas, or methods, or procedures. You can copyright products of your mind (wish I knew the exact english wording, sorry), complete programs (and parts of it), game rules... but not methods or ideas or procedures. Anyone ca...

Agreed, but there have been posts of 1-2-3 months ago that someone posted on that I would've replied to.... if they weren't flamed for doing it :p New people keep registering so some topics might just pop back in and be interesting - new people means new ideas. In the meanwhile I've gone through old...
