After a switch to Windows 2003 Server, the Perl code I already made didn't work anymore. I'm not sure if I can and want to reconvert all the code so that it works with the new operating system, and it's probably not.

They have to send the map contents, the textures, the modules, etcetera, all the time. Uhh, maps, textures etc are all static and (I'd assume) local. All it has to send is the position of players, monsters and items on the board (asw ell as combat info, and keeping track of all this). Granted it's ...

Welterde, It would just be an enormous lot of more work for something that's not needed. All locations on the map are entirely virtual, which means that any ingame server doesn't exist in any way in reality. About World of Warcraft, that's a game released for thousands of people. I don't think that ...

With client-server, the server tells all clients what's happening, if there's new mail, etcetera (In 3D games: where everybody is, what everybody is doing, etc). With peer to peer, nobody does this, either all clients send to all clients what they do themselves, but that may cause synchronisation fa...

*kicks doormat*

Hey you...
I'm making the server, remember?
Without that, a multiplayer mod wouldn't be possible (or you would make it P2P which sucks)...

You do it better if you can. Good luck :)

Well, I probably won't buy the DevCD myself. The contents of that CD are in C++, I can read C++ and understand what it's doing, but can't write it. (Actually I can, but it won't compile.  ) I will really need a good C++ programmer to modify Uplink, because I can't do it myself. Anyone t...

Hey,

This is a fast question to the Introversion developers, about copyrights.
Am I allowed to even make a server for this game, or is it illegal to modify a client to actually listen to the server? Can I use the name "Uplink" freely? Etcetera.

*UPDATE* Server base done.

Hi, I've got some private messages from people that want to help me test. Thanks a lot for those! To keep you updated, The server base is complete. The administration of users is complete. People can now log in. Now just the main interface, and then the hardest part: Server connections and programs....

(Small) Bigger update

Another small update, I'm now using POE (check http://poe.perl.org) instead of the old way, because the old way forked a new process for all clients and all modules, and that'll slow down the computer too much. Now it's all in one process, and all event-based. I'm still testing all POE features, the...

Hey,

Just a small update. I've got the forking and internal communication working, The administration module (which keeps track of all users) is done too, just like the Listener module. I'm currently creating a temporary client module to test it all completely.

i just had to say something about all of this so far all I've seen is a lot of people (apart from 1 or 2) that really don't have a clue about coding. coding takes time and patience and what ever you may think about this guys attempts, at least he's trying. (.....) just don't give up Daz wished more...

that reaction gave me a face like ».«

that's why I ask for people that know C++: I see my job as creating a server for uplink2... someone else will have to create the client - I'm sure there will be some people who will try to give a start to that once.
