Competative play tends to suck the fun out of a game... people become obsessed with ranking #1, rather than having fun or playing an interesting game. As was said in the previous thread talking about creating a Defcon ladder. :b Same bit with going into a game with predefined teams. Totally removes ...

Fortunately, I've never been in a game with that kind of opponent... usually everyone is very polite about it, with requests along the lines of 'Would you mind popping up to speed 3, or are you still dealing with unit placement/orders?' I can see how that'd get annoying though. Sadly, that's the dow...

Hey, I like the idea of the high speed, low detection radius planes. Possibly have them not be able to be targetted by the SAM sites, giving another reason not to simply launch all of your fighters at once. Maybe allow one or two fighters to take one out pretty quickly, but the enemy you're scouting...

Wow. A DEFCON 'clan'. You can just tell that some people have NO goddamn idea what the game is about. Much less starting a league, and screwing up yet another game where the point is simply to have fun, not to come in first on the scoreboard. Ah well. What else can you expect from folks that profess...

Same. I bought the game as a mild walk-in-and-play type deal. I don't want to pop on a server just to find a clan Allying with each other to nuke the rest of the world. That should be done through standard diplomacy and backstabbery. EVERY competative game I've participated in has been *ruined* by '...

Problem resolved. For anyone using a Linux NAT who is having problems still, here's how I fixed my connection problem (most of the time). Set Port Forwarding enabled in the Networking options within Defcon. Set your preferred ports. For those using IPTables rulesets still, add the following: iptable...

I've joined two servers total, and spent a good three hours trying to connect to any others. I've tried with almost empty servers, and 5/6 servers all with the same result... no dice. I've also had friends try to connect to a game I start, and they have the same problem of being unable to connect, t...

Random Join Problem (RESOLVED)
I can join games cleanly and play or spectate about 20% of the time, and have hosted a server once, so I'm relatively sure that my networking settings are correct. About 80% of the time when I try to join a game though, the 'connecting' bit hangs and keeps retrying, with the progress bar at 50%. Ver...

Which is why we have antivirals to catch the more common stuff, ZoneAlarm to catch the sneakier-newer stuff when it tries to call out, Startup Cop to nail the install scripts, and full-seperation NAT to make anything that does get past all that, useless. In game news, checked the microwave.. all tha...

Multimonitor. The 'network' option is to hook up multiple machines into a multi-monitor display, giving a readout of all your character's vital data, as well as a nice BIG version of the global map. And it uses port 31337, a joke on the part of the Introversion guys.. SAMBA/NetBIOS/SMB runs on port ...
