Solution to your libglut problem:
Upgrade to patch 1.3!
1.3 uses SDL instead of glut

You could also install glut, but I really recommend upgrading Uplink to 1.3 in any case!

I like this patch.. There's a lot of very nice fixes for the Linux version. Amongst other things, themes is now working and the irritating freezes some people got when the game was saved automatically should be pretty much gone (edit: At least this is the case on my 800Mhz Athlon T-bird). And sound ...
