Paint.net can be used with a 32x system.
And I use the auto detect and it works fine.

My mod, C.U.R.B? It has subscribers, but I never see any pictures with it. Never hear anyone talking about it or anything. So, does anyone use it?

This is an excellent and informative post. I would say don't worry about keeping them square. In your third example you show a sprite.png that is 512x256. If the mod doesn't need to use the extra space, then making it square would double the size of the sprite and waste space. The packing algorithm...

The ONLY photo editing program I use. Best free editor IMHO. Easy to use , tons of plugins on the forums, great support nice interface.

Sadly, larger tileset.pngs arnt possible. Nor are sprites.PNG that are larger than 1024x1024. Any larger and all objects show as black. Yes, more support is STRONGLY needed in the
ways of sprites and tilesets.

Been wondering myself. They pissed me off when they added multiple sprites support, but nothing for materials. Look at my CURB mod. All objects, because there just isn't enough spare material spaces. I'm hoping in A27, we get this fixed.

For now, yes. And as of right now they have to be objects, or 'props' as I call them as materials aren't working right.
