Demo updates coming soon

Postby Chris » Thu Jan 27, 2005 12:42 pm

We are aware that a lot of people have been very confused by the demo of Darwinia, with no clear idea of what they're supposed to be doing. We have to admit to being slightly suprised by this, but we've obviously misjudged the amount of help that games players need. We are working on a new demo that will include a detailed tutorial that explains the concepts of Darwinia. In the mean time, we've uploaded some basic help of our own which you can read here.

We're also aware of some issues with the registry that are popping up on a few systems, giving errors like "Failed to get CPU Vendor" and "Couldn't open registry value". These will be fixed in that demo.

We've been quite taken aback by the amount of coverage the Darwinia demo received. Uplink didn't get anything like as much promotion when it came out. Our webserver has been taking a heavy beating from all the links, which include slashdot, penny-arcade and bluesnews amounst others. We've now upgraded the webserver so everything should run a lot smoother.

 Will have second demo same objectives and same map as first :?:

If it is possible, it would be refreshing to play a little different demo :)

THANK YOU! :D

What about the data files? Will you password 'main.dat' this time, or are we allowed to alter as we wish? :)

The demo main.dat wasn't passworded in the current demo release. Or is it just me?

No, that's why I ask; maybe IV forgot to password it last time, and we weren't supposed to modify the files. Just wanted to know if they forgot it, or intentionally didn't password it.

yeah, same me 8)
my learning curve was about 1 hour,
then I enjoyed gameplay like hell :)

but that's me, I love IV's games

and uplink, too... it would be nice if someone (IV?) repacks Uplink with greatest mods like The Mod, FBI and some refreshing pack of gateways :)

maybe with modified story? but that's not necessary

Good news spreads fast Chris, what did you expect? Darwinia is something new and fresh, and as we all know that is what gamers crave. If you don't end up filthy rich from this, then there is no true justice in the world.

Word of mouth... great, great marketing, eh?
I'm spreading it quite a bit... just like I did with Firefox back then... it's funny to see how quickly an entire school has firefox, just by telling a few people, who tell more people, who again tell more... even some of the teachers are using it...
Now I doubt the teachers will play Darwinia... but many of the students for sure!

New Level?

Postby .tekrox » Sun Jan 30, 2005 12:04 pm

It would be quite nice if the new demo had a new level designed for it, I needed not any help to play the first - ubt I need something new to tide me over until release day!
