Kinect?
I've resigned myself to not getting Uplink 2.0. But how about Uplink with Kinect controls similar to Minority Report. It would need voice control as well though to compensate for the lack of a keyboard. Would look awesome on the 3d interface talked about in the subversion blog

Yes. It makes total sense to port this to a device that doesn't have working audio drivers for the PC yet, operates on essentially a resolution of 320x240 (yes, the raw data delivered on the PC is 640x480 depth value pixels, but the number of actual laser depth raycasts is much, much lower), and that only very few people have actually connected to their PCs and set up for proper use (there is a minimum distance of about 70 cm, anything closer is only seen as shadow), and use it for a ten year old game where speed and precision matter. What are IV waiting for?

Neither cool nor possible nor sensible. Now, IV have included several new unproven peripherals into their products before (The 3D mouse thing for Multiwinia and AmbX for Defcon), but it has always beenmentaljuvenile wrote:Sorry, didn't quite understand all the technical speak. Does that mean you don't think it would be cool or that you dont think it would be possible?
a) with the full support of the manufacturer, both technical and marketing wise
b) on their newest game
c) making some sense.
None of that is given here.
And of course, Uplink always has been a simulation of Hacking as Hollywood sees it, and handwaving interfaces plus speech recognition is well within that realm. A spiritual successor using a Kinect 'push stuff around' interface wouldn't be the worst idea ever, but it would need to be released where it makes commercial sense (that would be the XBox currently) and redesigned from the ground up, and the interface would need to be designed with Kinect's shortcomings, mostly that the resolution simply is not high enough to pick up fingers and hand gestures.
