Well, I just rebought (lent my last copy to a "friend" and never got it back...) Uplink, it arrived this morning, and I installed the linux version from the disk (running Ubuntu 6.10, by the way). Had problems from install, googled and found that I needed to rename libgcc_s.so.1 to something else to get it to run properly. Patched to 1.53, played for a while and boom. Anti-warez kicks in and I lose all my hard work :'(
Here's me wondering if the renaming of the file, or the fact that there are several copies of several files because of my attempts to fix bad framerates, is related to the problem...
Edit: Deleted the backup files, played for a while, still kicked me out. Presume it's a similar problem to the other guy then...
Uplink 1.53 Patch (Windows/Linux), Demo Windows

unfortunately my version comed recently from the store, not the cd, so it hardly apply.frenchfrog wrote:Yeah, for some times the version provided on the CD was wrong, it didn't included the world.dat file.
also my problem was code required in creating a new account, not kicked of during play.
Now you have you 2 possibilities:
1)Redownload Uplink Linux from the store.
2)Install the windows version from the cd and copy world.dat over to your Linux Uplink directory.
but eventually i'll try even this.

I've found that the game seems to think it's an illegal copy when transferring users.
This has just happened to me. I installed uplink on my windows partition (because I couldn't get the linux version to work)
After fixing the linux problem (silly me - forgot to copy copy the .dat files to lib) I copied my user profile across (It's a good profile, and I wasn't in the mood to work back up to that state) and within a short space of time I got the "illegal copy" game end.
I assume this is the cause, as a new profile I created does not have this problem.
