Defcon Modding Team

Postby denzil » Wed Oct 04, 2006 10:37 pm

Ok I've spoken with a few people about this and they expressed interest, basically the idea being that everyone who wants to contribute to the Defcon modding scene puts their names down to work on a list of items that we propose, therefore we don't have several people working on the same project (e.g. two map creation applications).

So we could just put a load of modifications out and people can pick & choose between what they want, say for example I wanted to spend all of my time on Bomber & Fighter graphics, would mean less people did this (not getting the same designs) so other things can be worked on.

People can put suggestions down and then a group of people working on that area can have a stab at them, e.g. "a Hot Air Balloon for a fighter.. or something?"

So off the top of my head:

    Fighter & Bomber Graphics
    Submarine, Carrier & Battleship Graphics
Radar, Air Pad and Gun Graphics
    Missles & Nuke Graphics
    World & General Graphics
    Menu Graphics

    In-game Sounds
    In-game Music
    Menu Sounds & Music

Applications (Mod Loader, City builder, Coast builder, Map creator, et cetera)

Language Files (e.g. German, French, Spanish, Norwegian, et cetera)

Well, I can work on language mods... but not translating anything. Just mostly personal ones like a 1337-speak mod, or a meme mod. That sorta thing. As I get into modding more, I'll let you know if I can do anything else.

Meme mod, anyone?

Uh, nice idea ;)

I'd want to do some of these:

* World & General graphics
* Menu graphics

* Applications/Tools (more tools, or just merge them into a modding "suite" or something :P)

~

... AND if I ever get the time, I might be able to do a Danish translation as well. :)

EDIT: Meme mod would be awesome! Wryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I'd be in the usual category of:

Fighter & Bomber Graphics
Submarine, Carrier & Battleship Graphics
Radar, Air Pad and Gun Graphics
Missles & Nuke Graphics

Anything graphics related really, but its worth making a list of what is out there and a link + screenshot of it, so we don't have five people working on EuroFighters, which have already been made

I'm a tinkerer- likely tinkering with graphics to make 'sets' and maybe experimenting with maps as well.

Pondered the possibility of making "Theme sets"- one of which I thought about calling Jovian wars. The four gallilean moons around jupiter would be the 'land' territories, while everywhere else is sea.

Switch submarines and surface vessels to spaceships.

Switch fighters and bombers to trans-atmospheric spacecraft.

There y'go.

Count me in, I’d be happy to work on:
Graphics, maps, menus & SFX
(As long as the idea inspired me)

I saw somewhere they would be releasing a map editor, so id hang off on that just to see what comes up, unless someone wants to do a huge europe... then have at it! :)

Will do a mass update tonight, am at work right now!

Would be nice to get a list of projects in progress listed up in the first post too so people can reference it when deciding what to make next!

A couple people have succeeded with completely new maps (workable sailing regions too) by hand, hopefully a map creator will be released soon to aid the process!

defcon\data\language\english.txt - I believe that is the file you are looking for?

GG - Italian would be lovely!
Sumpis - Swedish would also be lovely!

Any languages really, aslong as you can gurantee a good translation, not babelfish or anything :)

Looking through the files, does anyone fancy having a go at making a big ol' list of all the commands in the various config files (caches etc included) and explaining what each setting does?

Same with all graphics and sounds, explaining what they are what they do
