Introversion's Virtual Treasure Hunt

Postby GreenRock » Fri Nov 25, 2011 5:33 pm

Chris sent an e-mail to PC gamer.

EDIT:

Here's the picture

And I might as well quote PC gamer quoting Chris from his e-mail

I'm excited for this, but the gun nut part of me can't help but think "that's a horrible way to carry a gun".

I wondered about this when someone in the RPS thread posted a strange picture he found in the city generator (here and original post)

I also just had a look and found one in the voxel tech demo

Now the question is: how many are there, whether or not there's one in all the games, and whether or not the steam version also includes them.

EDIT: I just noticed that the PC-gamer one says 1 of 5, and the voxel one says 1 of 4

Curious

It bothers me that the picture says 1 of 5.

EDIT: Didn't read Socrates' post. That is very interesting. Well shit, now we all have to go picture hunting in the city generator?

Any thoughts on what 3612 could be? Converting to letters is an obvious one but that gives cfab which doesn't seem to be anything...

What happens if you use it as a seed in the city generator? I won't get a chance to try this myself until tomorrow....

I didn't find anything interesting using 3612 as a seed for the generator, see here: http://i.imgur.com/zZMWZ.png

I also opened up main.dat in the city generator (treat is as a .rar file), there's nothing interesting as far as I can see. Notably there is not this texture anywhere to be found in the data files. I guess it must be embedded in the exe?

Voxel Demo doesn't have any associated dat files, so nothing to open up there :(

Edit: Any way in which 3612 could be used to locate a specific computer in uplink or something? I'll have a look into that when I get time later

More images found:
http://imgur.com/a/T0ZH2

Seems like each picture has a number of differing captions...

Edit: Those first images from RPS both seem to say "1 of 4" And from the lin k I posted here, the same profile image of the guy with glasses says "1 of 5"

So, to summarise:

In the "x of 5" series we have
1 of 5: Hand holding Gun. Caption 3612 from PCGamer email: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/25/intro ... sure-hunt/
2 of 5: Murdered(?) man and woman in bed, guy standing over them. Caption ghdn Found in city generator (using 3612? - see comments from The-B on PCgamer link above): http://imgur.com/a/T0ZH2
3 of 5: Not found
4 of 5: Not found
5 of 5: Profile of man with glasses. Caption 38dh Found in voxel: http://imgur.com/a/T0ZH2

In the "x of 4" series:
1 of 4: Profile of man with glasses. Caption m.e.? Found in voxel: http://i.imgur.com/XbuET.png
2 of 4:
3 of 4:
4 of 4: (? Not sure if 4 of 4, bottom of texture missing) Murdered man and woman in bed, guy standing over them. Caption e.x.t.i Found in city generator: http://i.imgur.com/p8UtN.jpg

At first glance the images Cooper posted are the same as the ones that Xocrates posted, but the captions are different.

The Man in the Orange Jacket has captions m.e.? and 38dh
The naked (dead?) people on the bed have captions e.x.t.i and ghdn

Also looking at the preview of Prison Architect, it seems these polaroid pictures are used for telling stories in the game. Do all the pictures that have been found so far tell a story? Perhaps the following:

1. Gun
2. Dead people on bed
3. Man in prison

I edited my above post with a summary of the two(?) series.

Also, if no one has already, can someone save these images and upload them somewhere safe in case they get swallowed by the internet. In the office right now and can't easily do that...

Question:

I've never used a polaroid, so I don't know if the numbers mean anything. But, while poking around for what it meant, I found this picture that has matching numbers and words:

09847007348 Polaroid 032

Is that a standard polaroid tag? I'm curious why it's popping up on polaroid styled photos. Perhaps it's a third party application water mark, or some kind of that they used to make the original art look like a picture?

They've also been updating the tech demos on the Humble Bundle.

The textures for the treasure hunt seem to have been added after RC3 for the CityGenerator, and are also not in the original Voxel release.

City generator is now RC5, Voxel is RC3

EDIT: Not the case. CityGen RC3 contains "1 of 4" with the ex.i.t. caption. RC5 contains "2 of 5" with ghdn caption.

They also appear on seemingly random buildings. The same seed, same size map will not have the picture in the same location.

Does anyone have RC2 of the Voxel and RC4 of the citygen?
