My month of hell

Postby Byron » Tue Mar 24, 2009 11:40 am

Here's a life long tip for you:

Don't tear your Achilles tendon AND your calf muscle at the same time!

Just in case you didn't get that:

Don't tear your Achilles tendon AND your calf muscle at the same time!

In fact, I may just go so far as to say don't tear either of them at all, no, really, don't do it.

Unless of course you like laying on your back for at least a month with your leg elevated watching daytime tv. It was okay for a day and then I actually watched some daytime tv and I don't know what it's like where you are but I am sure that daytime tv in the UK is in violation of EU regulations on human rights. Honestly, my first experience of 'Diagnosis Murder' was like a UFO abduction - one moment it was on and the next I had lost 1 hour of time with absolutely no recollection of what had happened during that time. When this happened for a second time I came to the conclusion that my brain was involuntarily shutting down in order to minimize the long term damage that this tv show could do. Don't even get me started on 'Murder she wrote'. Actually, it's kind of ironic that both shows have a common theme of murder because eventually they make you lose the will to live which to me is a kind of murder.

Then there's the isolation. Having to keep your leg elevated means not going anywhere - for a month. It drives you nuts. It gets that the only company you have is the tv so you turn it and oooo.. look: Diagnosis Murder!

You may have come across the Karma-sutra but I now present you with the Coder-sutra. No, clean out that mind with bleach, this is not a book filled with naked pictures of coders (trust me on this - I had to share a room with Mark in Tivoli. Not a pretty sight, in fact I had regular bouts of that UFO time loss phenomenon again) but rather a series of poses that can be used to continue coding if you have damaged a limb or two.

One thing that fell by the way-side was Xiotex. Unfortunately if my laptop starts showing any kind of prolonged 3D then it heats up enough to keep a familly of 8 warm in a large barn. I didn't fancy frying my love-spuds so I didn't do any work on it. Time will tell if I ever get around to it again :( I did make a flash game though: http://www.xiotexstudios.com/Games/Arena3000.html

Work wise I managed to act upon my genius marketing idea for Darwinia+ which really meant that spent the last month learning all about wordpress template design and then coding up the site in PHP/CSS/XHTML. In fact I call upon all of the Introversion fans out there to help us out and spread this site around - our financial future could depend on it: http://www.introversion.co.uk/darwiniaplus/

Anyway - tomorrow is yet another appointment at the hospital. Hopefully they will discharge me and I can get back to work...

Oh and one more person tells me that pain means it's healing will experience a new involuntary action I have been developing.

Wow, I thought the tearing the Achilles' tendon pretty much incapacitates anyone by itself, along with the calf muscle... ouch doesn't seem to suffice.

It's great that your still getting things done though, pity about Xiotex, but the Darwinia+ website looks great. I don't have a 360 but I'll be checking back to take a peek inside the development process.

Honestly, I think that Angela Lansbury is the murderer in every single episode. I mean, we all know that correlation does not equate to causation, but when you have that many murders all attended by the same person, you have to start wondering...

Maybe they just wanted to get caught by her. People do the weirdest things in the name of fame, like playing a chimney sweep as well as a bank manager, or starring in a mystery/medical/crime drama with one's own son.

Best on-screen chemistry ever. ;-;

BUG REPORT!!!1!!11

Okay, so if you die in your Arena3K game, but smart-bomb before the Game Over screen triggers, the level will end, take you to the continue/shop screen, but when you start the next level you get a game over.

What are you doing playing my game when you should be spreading the D+ website link everywhere you can???? Work before play! :)

I just got back from hospital when my consultant kindly pointed out that it's been 2 months! Must have blanked out more than I thought.

Good news is that I have to now build up walking small amounts without the crutches and boot! Physio for the next 'N' weeks though.

I have never been an active person. Never broken a bone or torn a muscle in my life.

That being said, it must hurt like hell. I'm sorry.

EDIT: For the record, I am not fat.

Arena 3000 seems to crash my Opera without fail. :(

Also, I have no way of getting Internet Explorer to work with Flash Player (due to many bizarre reasons). :(
Here is my signature. Make of it what you will.

You have my sympathy Byron. I too am laid up in bed, but I cannot even sit up due to the tube in my lower spine. Keep up the coding though, it's looking good.

Epicness!? New crates!? OH JOY!

Just kidding. I think we all know what your capable of Byron, and we're quite sure we will shy away from it.

Tube? What have you done? Yours sounds a lot more serious than mine!
