First Multiwinia review

Postby vic » Tue Sep 16, 2008 12:00 pm

IGN have just published their worldwide exclusive review of Multiwinia, which you can check out here.

IGN also recently wrote a great article about Introversion as part of a series of features they’re writing to celebrate all things independent in the world of gaming. To read click here.

Also be sure to check out the very last of our Multiwinia Mondays, where we take a look at Multiwinia’s most violent and challenging game mode yet; Assault!

Not bad, although I was hoping for a little bit higher score.

They seemed to approach it using A-grade graphics demo titles as a benchmark... the graphics clearly aren't meant to go up against the biig FPS/RTS titles, and it's clearly not aimed at taking on that kind of game in any way... after all, it's $30.
I do think we'll see some more favourable reviews coming up. I hope so, anyway - it certainly deserves some.

RTS?

Postby jb_2me » Tue Sep 16, 2008 1:41 pm

I think it's amusing that IGN had a bit of a go at it for being not quite like a real RTS when in the same breath they praised Introversions games for not fitting into a standard genre.

Just like past games maybe this one isn't supposed to fit snugly into a genre, so don't review it like that, this is after all Introversion :)

Roll on Friday...

Indeed, I concur with ynbniar.... Though we are a bit biased I guess. ^^;

Agreement here as well. Multiwinia is definitely worth more than that.

Don't tell IV or we'll to get murdered for NDA breakage.

That bias isn't that strange, since it's very probable that the version that the beta testers have is not the same the reviewers had.

Could very well be that Chris ends up being correct with his initial prediction

Why? I would expect that the beta testers would have pretty much exactly the version of the game that is meant to go out. Otherwise, IV would be releasing untested code, and why would they do that?

Well, usually, for the projects I've developed, the version the users have does not have features that are either in development, or untested. But you're right, my reasoning would make sense for the preview versions, but not so much for this review.

*Please tell me if the following breaks the NDA, I hope it doesn't.*
IGN wrote:...there are genuine concerns such as some incredibly dodgy troop path-finding...

How did we miss that?

IGN wrote:...frustrating lack of scope for keyboard shortcuts...

What exactly do they want shortcuts for? (I can think of one thing, but to mention it here would definitly breach the NDA)

EDIT: I just had to mention this when I saw it:

IGN wrote:Multiwinia is definitely the most unique release of next week.

How many games are coming out this week? Or is IGN's way of saying that there is a unique game every week?

World in Conflict... and... erm... little help?

Not the most elegant of statements, no.

IGN wrote:Multiwinia is effectively Darwinia turned into Worms

I hope they mean this in a 'Multiwinia is effectively the best game of today' sense. Sadly, I don't think that's the case.

What does a 7.6 mean, coming from IGN?
I know quite a few review sites that use only from 6 and up, 6 meaning "fucking horrible don't ever play this or your eyes will bleed and your arms will fa.

Nothing in that review surprised me, really.
