Nuke explosion blinds the radars

Postby ivb » Sat Mar 22, 2008 12:16 am

Hi,

In the real world, the nuclear explosion in the upper atmosphere should blind the radars by high energy electromagnetic waves. It should also create a lot of charged particles, which screen the area around the explosion's center from being scanned by radar. The same is ground nuke, but it may be less effective in this. Can this be introduced in the game?

It can be implemented like a circle around the nuke point, in which no units or warheads are visible by radars. So, the player can give up some missiles to hide the others and allow them to reach the target. Such option may be included in the same menu as "Disarm" (when warhead is on the fly). The radius of the blind circle after nuke would decrease in time, of course. The maximum radius and its decreasing time can be chosen to achieve the best possible gameplay.

I don't think blinding the radar would be a good idea.

That's about as polite an answer as you can expect to get.

This would unbalance it way too much, a skilled player could, with a single well timed volley, totally block the radar covering for their next volley and make defense impossible.

The radar is suggested continue to operate, but some circle area around the air explosion would be not transparent for radars for relatively short time. This would allow some missiles to hide from radars for short time (and even for shorter time from intercepting missiles). Therefore, one can exchange (if desired) one missile for little longer pass of another missile.

This would strongly depends on decay time and on the radius of the blind circle. Both parameters can be tuned to be significant only for one volley.

It's highly unlikely you could find a balance where the blinding would do anyting useful whine not allowing any player of medium skill to get as many nukes as he needs through enemy defenses. Just send them in at any order; enemy AA fire will target the first nuke. Before the first shots hit, you detonate it, blinding the radar; the shots already on their way will have nothing to hit, and while the blinding is in effect, no new shots will be fired. Since nukes are the fastest moving objects (apart from gunfire, of course) in the game, not to mention the only objects that don't get destroyed by nearby nuke explosions, this will be the most useful application of radar blinding, and it would shift balance for the benefit of the attacker, which is a bad thing (at least for high class duels).

Couldnt player could easily just nuke his own country to hide it from radar, hit between the cities and no one could see your stuff : P'

Im pretty sure last time i played i could nuke myself : P
