Prevent name changes by spectators

Postby Lobster1071 » Tue Jan 08, 2008 3:33 pm

The title says it all. Prevent spectators from changing their names.
I was in a game where one spectator kept changing his name to help or harass the players in the game.

Spectator "What a loser" changed his name to "Blue's subs are just south of Alaska"
Spectator "I have no life" changed his name to "You all suck"
etc etc...

Can really ruin a good game.

Yup there are folk out there who like to spoil a game one way or another.

If you look out for servers called Dedcons I think you'll avoid this kind of thing...I think spectator name changing is disabled in Dedcons. Dedcon includes a whole load of other features like slowdown budgets, recordings of games...

Plus it all but eliminates the biggest problem of all...the host disconnecting early... :x

You can find out more about it in the Mods section...it's the first thread.

Just remember, the best thing to do if a spectator gives away information on you is to play the game back. If the info is real, then be quiet about it so that others don't know that it's real 9the spectator could be lying after all), or if he is just making stuff up then freak out about it so that people think it's real.

Good advice from both. I'll keep my eyes open for the Dedcons servers, thanks. I still think the preventing of name changing should be included as a feature in the game itself instead of a mod.

I wasn't even playing in this particular game that this was going on. I was a spectator myself, but I saw how it frustrated the players and spoiled the fun for all.

I have never experienced this, but I will keep a lookout. Thanks for the heads-up
