in-game nuclear attack videos?

Postby Sixu » Thu Jul 19, 2007 10:33 pm

My recent photos/wallpapers got me thinking about the possibility of in-game nuclear detonations. City-specific, mind you.

Are there any "Civilization IV" players here? What I propose is somthing like what happens when a city builds a "wonder". But instead of say, The Colossus of Rhodes being built, you have Paris going up in nuclear fury.It should be optional though, you should be able to turn them on or off, or just like the "wonder" videos in CivIV, you ould just click "okay" the moment it appeared.

maybe it would work? I just thought i'd get a random idea out there... :D

A large part of the atmosphere of Defcon is a result of the fact that it's so detached - you don't know or care what the actual consequences are. Also, IV themselves sure as hell won't make them - they have no artists on staff (hence the minimalist appearance of all of their games).
Sure, such animations would be cool, but I doubt they'd fit in the context of the game.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here: this is the War Room!

They will only distract a player. Imagine 6 nukes landed at Moscow, 8 at NY and 4 at London within several seconds. What a chaos it will create.

I agree, it would only detract from the atmosphere of this game.

Maybe we could have people running around on fire, cause that's funny.

Go and play 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein'! Then you can have sexy female Nazis in leather running around on fire!!!!! I know it's sick, but their screams are so god-damned funny!

The immense heat and pressure would instatly kill them. There would be no running as you put it, just incredibly quick death.

Doesn't matter.
If it justifies having sexy women running around in leather I'm all in favour ;)

I think the mushroom clouds could be more fancy. Maybe actually animated so it looks like there rising or a shockwave spreading out around them. Of course this is only my opinion and i don't expect anything to be changed. Another thing the game could use is more sounds or maybe more music tracks.

It would be nice to see the characteristic "Doubleflash" of a real Nuclear detonation animated instead of just a huge white splotch (which, mind you, is pretty satisfying when you've launched 6 warheads for 3 hits...)

We collect points . We don't kill people. The artwork (picture of paris) is very very good. Probably the best around the forum.
