How about a few extra buttons on the whiteboard menu that would let you stamp various game units? It would probably be easier than trying to draw battleships yourself.
Also a timestamp stamp would be nice to be able to mark sightings of enemy units for your allies and yourself. Of course here I'm thinking of that scene where the Dallas's crew extrapolates the location of the Red October..

Agree, it would be smashing to have it. However marking land intel with the board is incredibly fast and easy:
X = silos
O = radar
L = Airfield.
Could not be done much faster with stamps...

And with the addition of say:
N = Nuke
—> = Move
D = Defend
You have a pretty simple setup.
if you then label points at sea with numerals: 1. 2. 3. etc and write in your allie's chatbox what's at each point, you can pass on info on mobile units fairly quickly. Likewise, a shorthand nomenclature can be used here too to save typing time - 1. 3b2c1s NE would mean 3 battleships, 2 carriers, 1 submarine at point 1, headed north-east.
