Classic Cold War Era and Ground Troops

Postby Killer Katanas » Sun Apr 22, 2007 5:09 am

I'd very much like to see a variation of the game that is set during the cold war. Classic Nato vs Warsaw Pact stuff. Perhaps even the Cuban Missile Crisis with technology to match the period ie. Backfire bombers, B-52's, Saturn and Nike rockets.

I also think that expanding the game to include land forces would be good. they could move across land very much like ships at sea, so there is no need to make national borders on the map. The act of capturing silos, radar, and airbases would add another element of strategy to the game. With regards to the type of units, basic stuff...just tanks and infantry; very much like you have done with the Battleships representing all the forms of surface warships.

Believe it or not, you have a gem here for the teacher. If only the game had historical set-ups then I could use it as a teaching aid in my classroom for US and World History. I'm sure the kids would love playing it and they would learn from it as well.

Regards,

Brian

I will be honest with you, there is a good chance that many insults and belittling comments will come as a result of your request. It has been suggested many times before, and while there are some (myself included) who would love to see something like that as either a mod or a separate game, most enjoy the game how it is and do not want to see it changed.

I would ask that the community respond to this one with more restraint then normal, as the OP has good intentions for the requested changes, and also since being a teacher is hard enough without people shooting down creative educational ideas.

Ok, so I'll just post the bare facts:

-Those changes are not possible through regular modding

-Land units would be quite tricky to balance due to their ability to get very close to you buildings/cities and differences in shared land border (example: Asia/Russia= Big; Americas/europe=none, and there are few things worse than a bunch of useless units.)

-Capturing installations would be tricky to balance, pretty much by the same reasons of the previous point.

Long story short: As a more regular startergy game, possibly. As Defcon - Very very unlikely.

It would be a good teaching aid for maths.

Work out the equation for the nuke that is fired from London to New York.

Hell just fake all the details and let them play it. :D

Uhm ... I don't think you got it, Radiant Caligula; it's xander, not Xander.

It didn't occur to me that the difference between Xander and xander can best be explained by comparing parallel universes.
