Scoring idea: Karma counter

Postby Toonami » Fri Apr 13, 2007 10:58 am

I have seen this alluded to before, but here goes again:

Idea for a scoring system that tracks your karma (i.e. another column in the scoring matrix) with the value either being added at the end of the game or during the game:
-10 for nuclear first strike against any opponent (thus one can accumulate multiple -10's). If the game permits to hide the fact that player X has made a first strike against player Y (can you do that?), complete scoring will have to wait until the end of the game.
-1 for any nuke sent into direction of a civilian target, even if it does not arrive. However, disarming or rerouting (in case of bombers) means absolution.
0 for any nuke sent into direction of a military target.

Errr... And then what?

If you set a game mode where the objective is to end with a karma as high as possible, then no-one will ever fire.

If you want to get a karma as low as possible, then what's the difference from current scoring mode?

If it's just a curiosity that players can see, then a low karma is a good or a bad thing?

You can't have negative amounts of Karma. You either have it or you don't.

If it's just a curiosity that players can see, then neither. It allows people to see who has acted most 'evil'. Whether you think that is good or bad depends upon your own point of view.

So maybe a new row in the score mode matrix...

The vanilla submatrix is the existing one.

Actually this goes in the general direction of a configurable score mode matrix, which is not yet on the table if I understand.
