[MOD] Recycling [V1.10 stable]

Postby murgh » Tue Apr 26, 2016 5:06 pm

One man's trash is another man's treasure - provided you can find it in amongst all your rubbish.
This Recycling mod will let your prisoners or staff dig through the filthy garbage to sort out valuable bits and pieces from it.
Sorted Garbage goes straight to Exports and Green Garbage will be put in a Recycle Bin to end up
as Fertilizer for a Garden where your prisoners make food for the Kitchen and flowers for export.

Prisoners, workmen, janitors or gardeners who operate the Recycle Desk will find a lot of stuff:
- reusable pieces of SheetMetal: back to Workshop
- pieces of Log and Wood (also -> Workshop),
- thrown away but still usable Library Books with pages missing and other pages sticking together, but who cares, so back to the Library with it,
- bent LicensePlates (who threw those away? they are worth money! just bend them back),
- smelly Dirty Prisoner Uniforms (somebody thought the washing machine is broken, but it ain't),
- used Food Trays with stinking pieces of rotten food still on them (fire the lazy cook who threw it away instead of washed it clean),
- used Shopgoods (oh yes, why not resell that filthy stained porn magazine)
- and Crumpled Prisoner Uniforms which will just need another ironing job before they can be worn again by a new inmate.

And the circle of recycling shall be round!

Oh, and by the way, did anybody mention the Contraband Heaven your prisoners are working in? Since anything could be thrown away, from rusty old needles to allmost empty lighters, the rubbish turns quite valuable for those you don't want it to be. So you'd better put metal detectors and post some guard dogs around the Recycling room, or some volatile inmate might recycle a broken knife in one of your guards!

This mod includes a modified version of the Garden mod from Elfylia.
This garden will produce Cabbage and Potatoes for the Kitchen besides Cucumber, Lily and Rose for Exports.
You can click on the GardenPot to change what's growing with a button.

Version 1.06:
- This version got bugged due to brain lag. Don't use.
- Added potatoes to the garden.
- Added button to the garden pot to be able to specify what's growing.

Version 1.05:
- Added ability to remove the recycling animation from the table. If you don't want it, just dismantle it.

Version 1.04:
You will need this updated version of 1.03 if you are playing with PA 6b.
- The interface.spritebank file has been updated in PA 6b, so I had to update it as well. This version is also compatible with BarberMod by oskr13, Money Laundry by hoosdatGuy, The Greater Reform Mod by Captain Fantastic, Sauna by Murgh, Manufactury by Decamatus, and Room Planning Mod by Trixi.
- Added some minor tweaks:
- updated Research with some sprites,
- added SmallTable to the Production definitions, so if you happen to have small tables in the kitchen or garden, those will now be used as well to store ingredients and fertilizer.

Version 1.03: (not compatible with PA update 6b)
This version has the Garden Mod from Elfylia merged to have the whole recycling concept complete! If you don't want a garden in your prison but do like the recycling idea, then just use V1.02 instead.
- Unsorted Garbage is now sellable for $0,
- Prisoners, Workmen, Janitors and Gardeners will be able to operate the Recycle Desk,
- Green Garbage will no longer go to Exports, but turned into Fertilizer for the Garden,
- Gardeners will turn Green Garbage into Fertilizer by using a Recycle Bin,
- The Garden will produce Cabbage for the Kitchen and flowers, tomatoes and cucumbers for Exports,
- If you put tables in the Kitchen they will be used to store ingredients as well.
- Prisoners and Gardeners will work in the Garden,
- Added a lot of contraband, since in theory anything could be thrown away and found in the rubbish:
- Knife, Fork, Spoon, Screwdriver, Saw, Drill, Hammer, Shank, Axe, Spade, WoodenPickAxe,
- Cigs, Lighter, MobilePhone, Booze, Drugs, Needle, Poison, Medicine, Scissors, and Club could all be found...
- So put some metal detectors and guard dogs around, or keep the Recycling room StaffOnly if you really don't want your prisoners to have access to so many goodies in one room.

A garden has been added to the circle of recycling:

Version 1.02: (compatible with PA update 6b)
Added some more tweaks: Prisoners, Workmen or Gardeners who operate the recycle desk will now find a lot more besides the Green Garbage:
- reusable pieces of SheetMetal (goes back to the workshop),
- bits and pieces of Log and Wood (also -> workshop),
- thrown away but still usable Library Books with pages missing and other pages sticking together, but who cares (back to the library shelf you came from),
- bend LicensePlates (who threw those away? they are still worth money! just bend them back in shape),
- smelly Dirty Prisoner Uniforms (somebody thought the washing machine is broken, but it ain't),
- used Food Trays with stinking pieces of rotten food still on them (fire the lazy cook who threw it away instead of washed it clean),
- used Shopgoods (oh yes, why not resell that filthy stained porn magazine),
- and Crumpled Prisoner Uniforms which will just need another ironing job before they can be worn again by a new inmate.

I must say this adds a lot more realism to the whole recycling idea :D
But if you don't like all this stuff to be found, then simply keep using V 1.01 instead...

Version 1.01: (compatible with PA update 6b)
Added a little animation since there was some spare room left in the sprites.png

Garbage gets spawned into Unsorted Garbage, moved to the Recycling room and split by prisoners in Sorted Garbage and Green Garbage. Both go to Exports because I didn't find a good way to let the Sorted Garbage move to the Garbage area AND be taken away with the trucks. Sorted Garbage would stay in the Garbage area and pile up never to be taken away, so instead I made it sellable for $ 0 and it gets deported properly through Exports. The valuable Green Garbage goes away for 25 per stack or something like that. Not much, but with a large prison it will still be a lot due to big kitchens. In Version 1.03 the Green Garbage goes to the Garden as Fertilizer.

When prisoners sort out the garbage on the processor, it will of course output less Green Garbage than Sorted Garbage - the rate should be along 33% or so. The contraband is sky high: anything that could be thrown away in the prison, from used old needles to found pickaxes, you name it, will be there in the garbage (this is in V1.03 only, prior versions have no contraband defined).

While being busy with designing the garbage sorting table sprite I fiddled around a bit with magically spawning in order to have the workers stand more close to the table. I have no fucking clue on how to change the position of a worker behind a table. So instead of using a w3xh2 sprite which would make them stand quite far away due to some unused space below the table sprite, I split the table in two parts with the lower part being spawned upon building the table. The game thinks the processor unit is w3xh1 and thus will place the Operate*X position on the 2nd row instead of the 3rd row. When the rest of the table is spawned it now looks neat around the prisoner. An alternative way would have been to just use the carpenter table...

I like what you've done with this mod, but you may want to add a "decay" script to the Unsorted Rubbish, just in case people forget to build a Recycling and suddenly find themselves drowning in unsorted rubbish they can't sort.

Probably a good idea. And I also have to fix the bin because I noticed the unsorted garbage ain't hidden any more when it gets put into the bin. When I have to fiddle with the bin I might as well add another one for the green garbage bags so they get turned into fertilizer instead of exported.

Ok so I made a working recycle bin processor.. took me ages to find out it needs a lot of markers to work :? But it's now turning the Green Garbage into Fertilizer for the Garden mod which was made by Elfylia. The only problem now would be that people would need a garden to make use of the Fertilizer. I already made an improved customized version of that Garden mod a while ago, which produces ingredients for the kitchen. So I'm thinking about just merging all that into this Recycle mod to have the circle complete. But on the other hand, if people already have that garden mod running, they would need to bulldoze it and start over again :? So merging might not be a good idea after all... Any thoughts on this?

edit: hrmpf, I'll just make my definition of the fertilizer sellable, and see what it does. Hopefully it won't go to exports by default, otherwise it would render the garden unusable and I would still need to merge that whole garden mod.

edit2: crap, that garden mod is auto ordering the fertilizer. So I will HAVE to merge my improved version of that mod with the recycle mod and adjust it to be able to work properly without getting fed up with too much fertilizer. This means version 1.02 will stay as it is now, and version 1.03 will have a garden in it as well, resulting in a bigger sprites.png and possible incompatibilities with other mods if you have many running. With the garden mod merged into the recycle mod, the garden mod will be obsolete and gardens should be demolished before enabling the new mod.

edit3: well ok, the garden mod is merged into the recycling mod. Sweet! And I noticed you don't need to pull down the garden if you had one before, but just to be sure it's safer to dismantle the garden pots and rebuild them.

Those are issues in the game itself, not the mod. But you can always choose to not let dirty foodtrays spawn on the recycle desk. same for shop items. It's up to you what you want to appear on the desk.
However, spawning foodtrays will take care of staff serving tables running out of trays, because it keeps the system busy dealing with trays. I had a shortage of trays up to the moment when I let the recycle desk spawn extra trays, and now every staff canteen has sufficient supply.

I've made garden and the recycling room but the "recyling bin" have the alert sign saying "working position cannt be reached" but the workers put into bags of garbage, and the man who works on recycling desk (which is next to the recyling bin) is working, so I think it works, but have this alert sign "!" which is a bit annoying .. Also happens with all trash bins, but the trash compactor is Ok. Can you fix that? if not... :( Can I make something to fix it? I never make nothing like that but I would try, I really like this mod
