Crash after 4 seconds.

Postby TJW14 » Sun Nov 28, 2010 7:29 pm

I bought the game through Steam. it always runs until i see upstairs "Getting Steam3 Auth" and than crashes.
I've tryed running it through another computer and it worked, than i emailed AuthKey to myself and place it under Steamroot/Common/Defcon and it still crashes at the same point.
I've tryed deleting Authkey, Veryfying Integrity of game Cache, loging in and out of Steam, disabling Windows Firewall, Removing my AVG anti virus, Updating Video Drivers and running Steam through Admin Mode.

Here's the debug.txt:

Those kind of errors have been linked to quirky network setups in the past. Can you find and attack (after clearing authkeys) a file called blackbox.txt? Should be where you found debug.txt and contains more information about the crash location.

As a workaround, you can also download the non-steam demo and plug the authkey you got from the other PC into that. If it works, it will only work for a limited time and you won't get any achievements.

Maybe the Crash Report from Windows, then?

Let me just quickly tell you what kind of interference caused similar crashes in the past (though it all was with the regular version, Steam had nothing to do with it: The BigFoot network cards (you know if you have one, they cost a fortune) not just add a NIC driver, they install a new network subsystem. Defcon doesn't like it and crashes. Also, a program called NetNanny, an internet content filter, modifies the network stack for its work and causes crashes. And there have been general problems with Norton products, no crashes though.

Could be, though I think a couple of people are using that without problems.

I keep forgetting the specifics, but essentially, you need to click on something other than 'ignore' on the 'Defcon has stopped working' popup. 'Details', probably. The information can't be copy/pasted, but it tells you the location of text files containing it.

There is only a "close" button.
