When you say send "them" an email and they'll get you a working key, who do you mean by them? Steam support couldn't do anything.. well I guess that only leaves one option, assuming I can locate the proper address (I haven't looked yet).

Anyone else still having the authentication problem? Same story with me as anyone else who said so in this thread

Hello,

Just thought id add to the issues here. New build on windows on a new build PC. Downloaded Steam and Defcon and I'm getting the same error. Deleted auth key once started up as a demo user and still getting the same problem. Awesome game, but to be honest, I paid for it and i'd like to play the full version!

Ah that's fair enough. As long as it's being looked at I'm happy. 8)

Well, I just purchased the game today from Steam.

When I start it up, I get the whole Authentication Failure thing - it says "Key Invalid" down the bottom. I've deleted authkey and restarted numerous times.

Once past this stage, a message down the bottom right of the main menu (news feed?) tells me that IV believe they've fixed the Steam Authentication problems... sorry guys, doesn't seem so.

I'd really like to know I haven't wasted my money... so would Steam probably. Do we have any new updates?

Thanks everybody :)

Here's the official troubleshooting page:

I can't remember whether you need to open 5009 or 5008 locally. 5009, I think. But it doesn't hurt to just open them all.
(Sorry, slow, forgot about this)

I posted earlier in this thread after my game began working...

I am on a new PC now and now I'm stuck with the same issue again. The usual delete-authkey & logout/in to steam isnt working.

EDIT: I got in by getting my old key off my old HDD, but yeah, I think Steam's key-granting servers are borked again for this.

Any more updates about this ?

I bought defcon as part of the introvision game pack on steam a while back and at the time it all worked fine. I have since emigrated and had to get a new computer and all of the games from the pack work apart from defcon which refuses to authenticate through steam.
I have tried deleting the auth file , restarting steam and revalidating the files several times buy im still getting this issue.
Is there anything else I can try please ?

I just bought this game yesterday off of steam with 2 other friends of mine, in hopes to LAN party it up and have some fun. Unfortunately, the god damned game thinks we're demo users. I've deleted the Authkey file about 80 times now in hopes steam will generate a new one that will give me the ability to play the full version. I dont understand? Was the demo 10 fucking dollars? I've taken down my firewall and tried to authenticate directly plugged into my cable modem, i've even tried on a few friends computers with my steam username, and it still doesnt work. So, now that they have my money, what do I do? Sit here and play the fucking demo? My weekend got shot because of this god damned abomination. I spent THREE FUCKING HOURS browsing this forum, and steams forum, and any other forum that google turned up. and I found it amusing that some of the problems that were addressed that i'm experiencing now are three years old. THREE YEARS!? I applaud the efforts of the support team to get right on that problem. I guess the real question is, how much money does the full FULL version cost? because 10 dollars only gets you the Full DEMO version.

Basically, it looks like whatever Introversion did last May that fixed this issue for myself and others, needs to be done again.

I'm in exactly the same boat here, which is hugely frustrating.
Please can something be done about this because I'm dying to play this and just can't
