The game loads up but I can't see any of the text on the main menu, or any sub menus. All the boxes are blank. I can fix it by going into windowed mode, but, the font in windowed mode is too small I can't read it.

The smallfont mod could help, it is a set of alternate textures containing the game fonts.

Downlod from here: http://dedcon.simamo.de/mods/

Locate "Defcon.exe" on your computer, unzip the downloaded file there.

Since you cannot navigate the menu to enable the mod you have to edit the text file with the settings.

Locate "preferences.txt", should be next to your "authkey" file.

Add or overwrite the ModPath line:

ModPath = Small Font;0.1;

The mod contains 2 sets of alternate font textures, you can try the 2nd one by:
