WTF mate?

Postby tips » Sat Jun 09, 2007 11:24 pm

well, I haven't played since like, Dec. and I just downloaded (and installed) the 1.42 patch. (I have the standalone ver., BTW)
so I started a game (vs. an AI) and when ever I did something that required an error sound (such as placing a silo out of my territory) the game crashes... my blackbox reads this:
"
=========================
= BLACK BOX REPORT =
=========================

Defcon 1.42 built May 3 2007
Date 0:42, 10/6/2007

ERROR : 'Failed to open sound stream decoder : beep_harsh_malfunction'

=========================
= STACKTRACE =
=========================

retAddress = 00410F15
retAddress = 04F9A5B0
retAddress = 16A57CC0
retAddress = 02007265
"
I'd look in other threads but I'm really beat... so I'd appreciate if you'll cut me some slack. :P
thanx anyways

Do you have a sounds.dat in your Defcon folder? Are you certain you applied the patch to a previous full installation (i.e. v1.0) of Defcon and didn't just try install the patch and run it?

I'd recommend a fresh install of Defcon v1.0 and then patch.
Uplink help: Check out the Guide or FAQ.
Latest Uplink patch is v1.55.

WTF, mate?!

With regards to your problem, I suggest you redownload the files and try again.

I find this problem too... I have been analyse files sounds.txt before patching and after patching Defcon.
After patching next text block appear in file:

===========================================================
EVENT Error
SOUNDNAME Beep_Harsh_Malfunction (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
SOURCETYPE 0
POSITIONTYPE 0
INSTANCETYPE 0
LOOPTYPE 0
MINDISTANCE 100.00
VOLUME PARAMETER TypeFixedValue 9.03 UpdateConstantly
FREQUENCY PARAMETER TypeFixedValue 0.61 UpdateConstantly
END
============================================================

Maybe this mean next: When Error has occure - game want to load "Beep_Harsh_Malfunction", but
where is this "Beep_Harsh_Malfunction" ???
...Delete this fckng text block and there is no problem to play game
