CPU Silos

Do you think that the CPUs have good Silo set-ups? I know it changes, but over-all average.

The CPU silo setup can be ranked as slightly above primordial goo, but not quite as high as a retarded ape baby.

It would be nice if there was scalable AI or scenarios (star of India, etc.), but since it's a multiplayer game primarily I can understand why there isn't.

I see what you mean.

But i played a DEFCON game yesterday with me and my friend Devon, and we were against CPU North America and South america, and when the game was over, some of the N America Silos were up in Russia somewhere. One was even up at the tip of Alaska! I knew that was a bad move.

Apparently there were scalable ai's but they didn't see much difference between them so they cut them out, if my memory serves my correctly.

How long ago was that? Like, when it first came out?

Hmm, took me a minute to find it, but here.

It was, ish. The alpha and early betas (IIRC), had the ability to select the AI level, from 1 to 10. The thing is there wasn't much visible change between them to make it possible to spot, ergo it was removed.

The silo/radar/airbase setups that the AI uses were considered good during the beta, and haven't changed much since. Remember, please, that during the beta, no one had come up with bomber waves, non-defensive strategies, or silo clusters. Radar was placed on the edges of territories to give the maximum field of view, and silos spread out around population centers to better protect them. What was good, or even playable, a year ago is no longer any good.

Good point xander. Thinking back about it, I remember getting worked by the AI when I first started playing and wondering how it was possible to beat it. Back then I played much like it does.

I'll bump my vote up to "good for practice".

Hmm, I don't think the CPU is good for practice. At least not in normal terms. I'd say it's more along the lines of good for fine tuning specific tactics, like the bomber wave/I beam or SuiSilos.

The difference being working specifically on a certain technique vs. learning how to 'win'.

I've only had the game for a little bit, and i used to avoid playing the CPU because I didn't know how to beat it. Now all I really do is play the CPU.

Would it be possible to add CPU A.I routines as a patch?

The cpu, although random, uses better silo/airbase setups than 75% of the players I see in game. This doesn't go for radar placement though.
