[quote="Player7"]mixed fleets!!?? ughhh, never.
It was my belief that since every ship in the fleet must move in unison mixing fleets slows every ship down to the match the slowest ship ie: battleships go as slow as carriers or subs.[/quote
With the B/ship, Carrier, Sub combo, you get the benefits of Active Sonar in close proximity to the other two vessels, with a small trade-off in speed. I only use this method when playing as Europe, where the east coast of North America is the primary goal, and you usually get a lot of confusion mid-atlantic (especially with fleets coming up from Africa and South America as well).
Also, you get a maleable flotilla of 12 self-contained units which is protected as well from the rear, as from the front. It would be interesting though, to put this up against a very well managed 'battering ram' of B/ships, followed by Carriers (spewing fighters then bombers), with Sub packs lurking always in the background.

I'm just getting into this forum stuff.
Anyway, I had my first game as Europe for a while, using the above setup - with mixed results. On the plus side, I did catch a Sub fleet trying to sneak up past Greenland just after Defcon 3, and destroyed them. However, I made the mistake of keeping my own flotilla closely bunched, the reward for which was some serious fleet-nuking mid-atlantic.
And... Russia sailed down the coast of Norway unopposed, spotted my airbases, and promptly wiped them off the map. Oh well, what was this topic about again?

Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink.
I use boats with little wheels that kan pull up onto land and nuke a city from a park bench. That's the way to go. I found a way around this newest version. LAND SAILING IS BACK AHOY!! YARGH!! We be pirates.

I voted dinosaurs because once I was africa, and I arranged all my fleet like a dinosaur's head by Austrailia and used the whiteboard to draw the outlines better,
I then proeceeded to comment that "The dinosaurs are coming back to Asia, to bring the extinction!"
( I thought that up in 2 seconds and I'm very proud of it )

1 battleships 3 carrier in some and 3 subs and 1 battleships in the rest.
My subs don't hold together too well...
ANYONE HAVE ANY WATER RESISTANT CHEWING GUM!?
What happens to non resistent chewing gum that would require it to be resistent? O_o

I think people are too hung up on annihilating other fleets. I used to spend most of DEFCON 2 and early DEFCON 1 trying to sink people in the open ocean. I eventually realised it was time much more effectively spent launching sub nukes from my own water against my nearest neighbour and coordinating bomber strikes, while the rest of the fleet protected my coast from infiltration by subs.
