Selective Radar, Who Uses it?

Postby kentuckyfried » Mon Jun 18, 2007 6:53 am

Today looking through the options before a game started, I noticed for the first time (dunno how I ever missed this), the option to turn on selective radar sharing.

I'm sure there's a ton of play in that one little option and I'm wondering (since I've never played a hosted game with this turned on), who uses it, and better since I've never heard boo about it, who knows about this option?

Next chance I can, I want to try this one out :)

I really don't know why people don't use 'selective radar sharing'. Even when I ask the host to turn it on, he generally doesn't.
I miss that option and really don't know why should I share my radars with my allies :) Sometimes I prefer my enemies to receive my radar readings, not my allies. I think it's the option people neglect undeservedly. It's a great fun to blind your ally when he attacks or provide intel data for someone who attacks an ally you wanted to backstab anyway. The game gets more interesting with this option turned on, especially in diplomacy games.

Anyone remember the guy called barbarossa2? I think he played as Gen. Ripper, or something like that. I joined a game he was hosting a while back. He was the one who was making a 3D Defcon-type game, and by all acounts it seems to actually be progressing, so hats off to him. I think he's changed his nick (I can't remember what it is though), but anyway, he uses selective radar. We had an absolutely amazing game, but it was a long while back, so I don't remember the details.
Here is my signature. Make of it what you will.

Eh, force everyone to ally with selective radar and change the mode to survivor.

That, or abuse the fact that some settings can be safely(*) changed while the game is running. Start off with standard diplomacy, and after the game started (Use WaitStart), switch to custom mode and enable selective radar sharing.

(*) not really supported, but it works.

Well, besides the non-recommended part, you can't choose a color with diplomacy. A forced ally game gives you some option (that everyone has to agree with).
