I'd like to know as well, also does this method work with bombers? Is there a way to tell a certain amount of bombers to go to launch mode as changing them all manually is tiresome.

It was already answered in the thread:

shinygerbil wrote:Even when pressing Shift, you have to go round and fire each sub's nukes manually. Pressing shift just makes the subs all surface and go into "MRBM mode", but you'll only be targeting with the 5 nukes from the sub you actually *clicked* on. The secret to making the nukes all fire at once is, once you have pressed shift, to allocate all the subs' nukes before the first round of nukes launch. You'll then find that the subs will launch simultaneously, which is great for punching a hole in all but the best enemy defences.

I hope that made sense to you.

Since shift does not apply to firing, just fleet mode changing, it won't apply to bombers.

shift can be used for carriers, I believe.

Shift can be applied to any number of carriers or subs to change their fleet status (not sure about mixed fleets but i imagine it will work), using Shift is a fleet status change only, it cannot allow multiple unit target locks such as subs.

What's the trick with the "Shift Key?"

Postby Tucsoncoyote » Sun Jul 29, 2007 3:56 am

Getting back to Subs and the "Shift Key" trick:

I was wondering about this myself and I experimented with it today.

Now the question is this..

1. Do only subs that you have set to "MRBM Mode" surface and Fire when you hit the Shift key and select one of the subs to go into MRBM Mode? Or do all 12 subs surface and only the ones in MRBM mode launch? I'm kind of confused on that one..

2. What if you select only 1 target and then want to have your subs to dive, and move to another location using the same trick? (Sort of what I like to call, Wash, Lather, Rinse, repeat. Or rather Surface, Fire 1 MRBM, Dive, Move to new Location, Repeat.)

What is the theory on the Shift Key?

1. Only subs ordered to MRBM mode will surface. If you hold shift then all the subs in that fleet will go to firing mode, regardless of whether you select a target or not.

2. By by ordering a fleet to move all subs in that fleet will immediately submerge. It will take the amount of time necessary to switch to passive mode before they become invisible, and during this time they may be target by both sea and air units.
