how do i turn the fx. i can turn the music off but there is no option to turn off the dialing and stuff. is there some kind of patch i can get? i tried removing the sound.dat file from the data folder but then the game won't load. is this a problem for anyone else?

There is no game option for that. Just turn off the sound. Or if you like to listen to iTunes in the background, turn it up. It doesn't usually bother me. It fact, I enjoy the fact that it makes my roommate/family wonder why I'm dialing so much :)

If you were really determined, you could edit all the sound files in sounds.dat so that they are empty...but it would take a pretty long time!

Yeah, this is true. Use ResEdit for something like this, it'll take less time to edit the sounds out. Be sure to RedShirt it, first.

I did that, the Mac guys said it didn't always work.  Although I did that before the patch, so maybe it will work now.  :)

Well, I've never exactly done the whole thing myself, but I've RedShirted and ResEdited a lot, so I know how most of this works....

You don't need to Redshirt sounds.dat, it's not encoded.  :)

Sounds.dat is just a zip file with a different extension, you can open it in almost all archiving programs. :)
