More than a bit confused...

Sorry if i'm repeating what others have said - im getting well muddled trying to sort it all out, so if people could help with the following it would be much appreciated, cause its beginning to really annoy me:

As far as i understand ,the FBI Mod doesnt work with patches 1.54 or 1.54 - if this is incorrcet what does it work with? I've tried running it with the bare game (1.3 it think) but it wont load. Therefore as my computer will only allow it to run on a patched version, either I'm doing something wrong or I've got a spas version of it.

Also, I'm lead to believe that I cant run the FBI mod plus the SimplyUplink "patch" at the same time - Is this also corredt?

1) You cannot run two mods together.

2) The mods are not compatable with anything beyond 1.3

Ok, well what Am i doing wrong:

1) Installed the Game.
2) Extracted fbi_uplink to c:\program files\uplink
3) run FBI_UPLINK.exe
4) end up with a blank screen (link should be listed below)

Nice new problem - Uplink is causing my system to restart after a while (not sure of the exact timing) - just wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem or if its just my computer?

I had this problem with DEFCON - try CTRL-ALT-DEL eting and shutting down various background tasks, (but not "explore" or anything with "sys" or "win".

Else try a reinstall.

How much did you have to shut down to use DEFCON?

All the useless background programs:

Yahoo messenger
Google desktop
Printers

Anything you can do without that are in the System Tray (the little icons next to the clock on your taskbar [normally bottom right of your screen])

Restarting after a period of time usually indicates over-heating In any case, closing down programs running in the background as microchip08 has suggested should help.
Does it happen with any other games?

No, which is the annoying thing. For example I can run C&C3 for hours or FM2007 for days without anything happening, but after less than an hour of playing uplink i get a restart. Thinkin now it may be something to do with the patch or akin

Just had a go now and lasted less than 10 minutes! Grr

Yup. And traces take longer if you bounce through a system you have access to, and even longer if you have admin access to a system

I didn't know that... is that true?
