The Price Of Tea In China...

I've seen a lot of topics (while sifting through "PLZ OMG LOLZ MAKE UPLINKZ TWOZ AN SENDSZ ITS TO MYA SZMAAIL ACCNTZ" topics) of people saying "There will be no (Professional) Uplink 2 unless the rights are bought." So, just for information's sake (I'm broke as a bat, and not one of those RPG bats where you kill them and you drop gold either), I was wondering how much buying the rights to a semi-independent series such as Uplink would cost? Again, I restate, for information's purposes, not commercial purposes.

First off, I can't really imagine IV selling the rights to Uplink. There is too much potential that the good name of the game, and the goodwill generated by it, would be dragged through the mud. That being said, assuming that IV have a price, I doubt that they would post that here. Those kinds of financial details are generally kept secret, especially in the games industry. With good reason, too -- suppose that Macrohard wanted to buy the rights to Uplink from IV, and they were willing to offer half a million for them, but IV had already stated on their website that they would sell the rights for a hundred thousand. What kind of negotiating position does that put IV in?

Why not start from scratch?
The entire game is easily doable for less than 100.000.
IV sure did it :)
