Steam has given me version 1.54 of uplink. I can't get some things to work out right. such as the hud proxy bypass. There doesn't appear to be anyway to get it to fire up, yes I started the program, just can't get it to go. Also after getting the HUD, my proxy disable seems to work but when updating Social Security I don't get a responce. No "Proxy must be disabled" or confermation that it went through.

Is there a difference in steam v. regular windows version?

no, they are exactly the same, first, the proxy bypass, this is where most people go wrong, there is a tutorial in game on the uplink ISS on how to use it, i suggest you take a look as it will reveal what you need

second. the social security database does not give confirmation that the data has changed, if there is a problem like the proxy is still up then you will be alerted, if there is not a problem then there will be no messages when you change the data.

Forgive my stupidity, but what is ISS?

Also there is, at least on mine, a confirmation stating data has been changed.

and which server gives the confirmation, the GCD the social security or the education server?
