U.S. Uplink Copy Company

Postby adomin1000 » Fri May 26, 2006 6:58 am

Does anyone know if the user files made in Uplink:Hacker Elite by Strategy First are compatible with the True, Legit, All Powerful Uplink of Introversion?

I just bought Uplink: Hacker Elite from Strategy First 2 days ago and reading throught these forums just realized that my copy was from bankrupt, unauthorised company. I just really hate starting over from scratch. Especially since I'm already a Mage and have over a billion credits in the bank and a few million in profit from stocks.

Just to make sure that I'm not stepping on any toes:
I AM planning on purchasing from Introversion and support them. Plus, I want the first Game Bible. I'm also thinking that I can't crack Game Bible 2 since the keyfile is probably completely different than the true authentic uplink.

Thanks guys, now I'm gonna get my combined 4 hours sleep and only break from uplink, LOL. I'll get another break when I go see X-Men:3. And if uplink hackers are in Mexico, look out for a '81 blue and gray two-tone Chevy Silverado. I just had mine stolen last night.

I believe the userfiles from Hacker Elite will work with IV's version of Uplink - the company itself might be dodgy but there's nothing dodgy about the version of Uplink they're selling.

Sorry to hear about the car, I hope you can get it back :(

Well, I was actually able to convince Strategy First into giving me a refund so I just bought the true uplink from Introversion and paid the difference. It's actually almost twice as much in cost after you pay shipping. Also Introversion's uplink seems allot bugier than Strategy Firsts. I have allot of menus that show up white and it loads menus and the little keypad IP address thingy really slow. At first I thought it was because of the profiles from my old game, but it also played like that after creating a new user. What happened? Or is it just my install that's doing this?

Could be the opengl file. Try deleting it, also apply the latest patch available from Introversion's site, also try making a new user see if it improves it.

Applied patch but with no luck. Only file I found that mentions OpenGL was glu32.dll. I added a .bak to it and Uplink still has the same problem. Tried the same thing with glut32.dll but Uplink didn't like that.

isn't there a file named opengl32.dll or opengl.dll? delete this and uplink should work fine.

Yeah, there's an "opengl32.dll" included in the Uplink directory. Nuke (or, preferably, rename) that and your performance should increase dramatically.

Well, oddly enough guys, my install doesn't have a file named this.

Hmm, that is sort of odd. I suppose the graphical anomalies that you're experiencing could be due to the system OpenGL driver not supporting all of the features that Uplink uses properly.

I uploaded the opengl32.dll from my Uplink installation. Click here to grab it:

Just dump it into the Uplink directory and try running it.

Many thanks Spectre. Uplink runs great now. Incidentally, I just realized that there is an OpenGL32 file in the Strategy First uplink install that might of worked, but better safe than sorry.
