Uplink (Mac) not recognising mouse clicks.

Mac OS X 10.8. Uplink purchased from App Store.
Macbook Pro (late 2011)
The game starts as usual but unfortunately the program doesn't seem to recognise mouse clicks (from trackpad), making it unplayable. There is no way for me to get past the "register as an agent" screen.
Any advice?
