Overheating on Demo

Postby skrayl » Sun Jun 01, 2008 5:18 pm

I'm trying to play the uplink demo, and I'd love to get the game, but the demo causes my computer to overheat. According to my temperature monitor it gets up to around 240 on the CPU before shutting down. This doesn't happen on many much more complex games, such as Portal, Half Life 2 and Episodes, Second Life ETC.

I'm running Windows Vista, have 3 gigs of ram, a dual core AMD processor at 2.6Ghz. I have an Nvidiia Geforce 8500GT graphics card.

I've tried:

Running in Administrator
Disabling Aero
Setting affinity to one processor
Running in XP compatibility.

Any suggestions? It's clearly this games fault.

I also tried disabling all other programs/background tasks.

Strange, Uplink shouldn't cause such a problem, it should only use 1 of the 2 core.

Which version of the demo have you tried? For latest version.

To be fair to you, solving someone's 3 and a half year old computer problems is astoundingly difficult...
