The turning point in digital security.

More than ever, data and network security is of utmost importance.
And one of the biggest reasons is corporate espionage.
Bringing a complete groundbreaking ecosystem of powerful software, the latest
in cutting-edge computing hardware and a simple, specialised user interface,
Uplink OS is the de facto choice when it comes to protecting your client's interests.

Uplink OS is a total graphical modification for 2001's indie cult hit
Uplink: Trust is a Weakness by Introversion Software.
It aims to bring a fresh look to the game's cyberpunk visuals
and a much needed upgrade to its interface and usability.

Image

The mod has been, and continues to be, actively in development for a bit over an year. Most of the hard work has been done, the graphics engine was re-written and most of the UI elements/systems are in place. What remains is the actual content and a very needed polish and testing pass.

The first release will be Beta (as in "it may halt, crash and catch fire!") which will hopefully have everything needed to make the game actually playable and the campaign finishable.

Image

The final, Gold version will feature extensive bug fixing, a better tutorial and some nice polishing touches. Maybe even some new mission types, who knows?

After that, if I still have the drive to work on it and the community wants it, I may add some post-launch features and updates that will hopefully include a proper localization support for the community and guides and resources for modding the interface (just like the old Uplink!)

Image

  • Implement all the windows.
  • Implement all the apps.
  • Implement all the computer interfaces.
  • Make sure the game can be finished!

Image

  • Bug fixing!
  • A better tutorial.
  • Add new sound effects.
  • Add button tooltips.
  • Maybe some new music?

Image

  • Additional bug fixing.
  • Localization support.
  • Custom themes support.

Wow, looks nice from the screenshots! A real modern feel but still feels like Uplink. I've never actually played more than a few minutes of the game, so maybe when this mod is released this will be my chance... :)

I'm happy you like it! That's exactly what I'm trying to achieve. Make it a bit more friendly to newcomers. :)

Hello people!

As I've said in the announcement post, I've implemented most of the backbone for the mod.
That means that I'm now steadily putting content back into the game, and so,
for the last couple of weeks, I've been working on Uplink's windows.
The old system was pretty primitive, in that you could only have one window opened
at a time and they were static. Not anymore!

Image

Image

As you can see in the screenshot above, they can be dragged,
you can open how many you like and they have tabbed browsing!

The tabbed browsing is the one I'm most proud about, since now you
don't have to wonder through numerous windows to find what you want and
have also helped me to double-down greatly on ergonomics.

The only windows left to create are the LAN Viewer and the Cheats Screen(!),
but I'll have to get back to them later, since I really need to start creating the Apps!

Without further ado, here are a few close-ups!

-20GQs, 'cause I be cheatin'...

You no longer have to open the "View Gateway" screen now.
You have all the information you need about your PC in a single screen!

Image

I hope that you enjoyed reading this and that I'll see you around next time
when I'll be talking about the Apps.

Cheers,
Cpt.McBacon.

I am not sure this the right place to post this, but I keep getting fatal errors every few minutes. It is impossible to predict when it will happen. I am using the steam edition and the latest edition of the mod.

Not sure if this is the best place for a bug report but here goes.

During play (the UI looks awesome) whenever I attempt to speed up time from normal the game crashes with the following error message. The rate at which it happens is a little different between max time advance and the fast time advance. In either case in my game when it hits Tuesday at 12:45, no matter which time advance I use, the game crashes.

Code: Select all

An (unrecognised) Uplink Internal Error has occured
===================================================
============== B E G I N  C O R E  D U M P =================
retAddress = 00394333
retAddress = 00456741
retAddress = 005883AE
retAddress = 750462C4
retAddress = 77CB0609
retAddress = 77CB05D4
retAddress = 00000000
============== E N D  C O R E  D U M P =====================
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
TIFFReadDirectory: Warning, E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Uplink\uplinkHD/graphics/map_l_mask.tif: unknown field with tag 34665 (0x8769) encountered.

I also get a Fatal Error message that pops up and says to contact Introversion. I assume this message and the Coredump above are one in the same errors as they seem to correspond. I'm currently experimenting to see what happens when it runs naturally to Tuesday at 12:45.

Edit: I continued to play at normal time until getting to Tuesday at 12:46. Then I attempted to fast forward time by using the slower of the two time advances. As soon as I pressed the advance time button it crashed again with the exact same message as above. I am in the process of swapping out my gateway server for a new one so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. This was the reason for wanting to advance time in the first place.

Edit 2: It would appear this may have been fixed in 0.92 update as I was on 0.91 and this issue may have been because I had been disavowed for not paying my fine. Once I upgraded and started my save the Disavow window appeared and my game was over. So looks like that was the issue.

Another issue I ran into and is mentioned on the ModDB area where I downloaded this awesome mod is when you attempt to transfer funds nothing happens. It allows you to enter your account, the account of the other party and the amount to send. However when you click the Transfer button nothing happens. There isn't anything in the debug.log file and there is nothing within the game that says anything.

Just wanted to let you know.

has anybody managed to get this to install with an original patched v1.0 CD?

If you could give a directory structure of what the 1.0 install looks like, I could give a try.
Where are files installed, save game folder or anything like that, that might be in a different folder.

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of updates here, but after seeing that these parts of the forum are pretty much dead, I didn't take the time to post anymore.

Regarding the CD version of Uplink: It's a bit hit or miss. Basically, if you update the CD version to 1.55 it should work with the GOG version of the mod, if not, you could try something like in the following thread:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/uplink-os/for ... on-edition

Hope it works!

Cheers,
Cpt.McBacon.

PS: Oh, the mod is now released! :D

Hi Cpt. Do you have a repo that you used for the mod? I'd like to try and help with bugs, features, and possible expansions. Plus, I'm curious how you made the mod.
