Running uplink from command line

Postby Asger17032 » Fri Oct 28, 2011 10:15 pm

Heres the thing:
I disabled fullscreen in the options, but found that part of the screen was cut off because of low screen resolution.
But when i open the options screen again, the buttons are way down in the right corner, which is cut off, so i can't change it back.
Now, i read somewhere that i just have to add '+graphic_fullscreen' to the command line, problem is, ubuntu doesn't recognize 'uplink' as a command at all.
What am i doing wrong?

A lot of things.

Let's start with some simple questions:
Where did you get Uplink from?
Where did you install Uplink, and how?

If you answer that it should be much easier to help you :)

Sure thing!
I installed it using the Ubuntu Software Center.

Find where Uplink is installed?

Code: Select all

cd /
find . -iname '*uplink*' -print

Well, Uplink is installed in /home/asger/uplink... But I honestly can't see how that helps me...
I have tried running "sh uplink +graphic_fullscreen" and "bash uplink +graphic_fullscreen" in the install directory to no avail. It just spat out some info about the game.
Sorry for being such a noob at Linux, but I really can't see what I need to do :)

Sorry for the long delay...

Let's try to find another way around that problem. The options are save in the "options" file, which used to be located in ~/.uplink/. Simply delete that file and you should be back with default settings.

Code: Select all

cd ~/.uplink/
ls -al
[if the options file is there]
mv options options_old

Thanks for replying :D
It did remove my profile and settings, but the game stills starts in windowed mode...
Is there really no way to run the game from the command line?

I'm sure there is but I don't know how Uplink is setup under Ubuntu Software Center.

If there is a start up script, just open it up and check how it works, this is the Linux way of doing thing, exploring and figuring thing out by yourself. Or perhaps I'm just old school.

There is no better school than the old one. I'll try messing around with it some more.

I am doing a complete reinstall of Ubuntu soonish, and that'll probably solve all my problems. But thanks for taking time to reply! :D
