Not any more, they are stopping the free service in February.

You know the classical Internet Start-up scam.

1)Build a huge user base by offering free stuff
2)Turn the service from free to pay for it
3)...
4)Profit!!

No they're not, I'm sick of people saying this (although I suppose AVG are to blame for the horribly worded update message).

Support for AVG Free 7.1 is stopping. However, you can upgrade to AVG Free 7.5 for no cost and continue to get free updates.

I use AVG and Sygate (discontinued, but the older version works fine). Avast! is good, and Kerio(?) Personal Firewall I've heard good things about, but never used it so I can't comment.

Thats news to me. Although, according to the AVG site, v7.1 will be ceased but a free version of v7.5 will be made available. Maybe I'm not reading it right.

EDIT: I guess Darksun confirmed what I thought.

Ok, I saw the pop-up on 1 of my older computer. I haven't got it from the rumors on the web. The message was indeed badly worded ( they did it on purpose? ).

I have seen Uplink full versions on
<snip! - NeoThermic>

Also I suppose you might like to know this as well while I was on there I did alittle search for Defcon and they supposedly have full versions of that as well.
Just thought you'd like to know. Keep up the good work.

Keep up the good work I do hope that the press release about Uplink is about Uplink 2. That would be cool.

Guys, don't post the links to the sites - there's no need to make it any easier for people to download the game. Send them in a PM or something.

Just to let you know, Totalgaming.net sells Uplink, and they say that they got the rights from eXoSyphen Studios. I googled their name to get the site. Thought uplink is not on their site that I saw.

If that is the case, then Totalgaming is just completely bullshitting its customers - exoSyphen makes different, significantly more crappy hacking games.

Here is the first reply that I got from totalgaming.net's support page at Stardock:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Please know that Stardock is an authorized reseller of Uplink: Hacker Elite from eXoSyphen Studios.

Thanks,
Kim

Here is the newest information that I received, I was wondering if someone can verify it for me:

Hello Robert,

Introversion has exclusivity outside of North America.
Strategy First actually has distribution rights in North America, and we resell for Strategy First. I mispoke mentioning eXoSyphen, who published a different game we resell.

Thank you,
Kim
