How do guards pick up dropped batons/keys? and bug in doors?

Playing the tutorial prison riot part. My guards and riot cops get "stuck" at broken doors as do the prisoners and then they don't respond... get beat up and die...
Also when guards drop their batons or keys how to pick those back up again?
