Full Screen Problems

Hi guys I've only just bought this and I've been up and down the internet trying to find a solution to my problem

I cant enable full screen. I've tried the preferences folder and obviously ingame settings and it doesnt do anything, it just stays the same small window on my screen. if i change the resolution ingame the game crashes saying 'failed to set a reasonable screen resolution ..\..\Source\interface\cox\codex_optionsgraphics.cpp line number 271'.

Any help would be grateful.
Also im running on win7 pro and I've only seen problems like this for win 8
