Hungry Inmates, not enough meals

Postby Ade_McC » Mon Oct 01, 2012 4:29 pm

I currently have 56 inmates (max 20?!?) and according to the stats, hunger is the issue affecting most prisoners.
I've taken a look during dinner time and there don't seem to be enough meals being produced although stock seems reasonable.
I have 5 ovens, 4 fridges, 5 cooks, 3 serving tables and a nice dining area with tables and benches etc.
Do I just need more cooks or more equipment or better routine? Maybe a longer dinner time will sort it!

4 ovens, 4 fridges, 2 sinks.

3 tables, 6 benches (2 on either side of table)

4 cooks

Result : No issues with ~40 people.

Go have a look at your regime tab and consider giving inmates longer eating times. FREE TIME includes everything except eating. Is it only a few people or a great deal of the? Inmates stuck in solitary, medbays or the like obviously haven't eaten and may be hungry between meals.

Edit: It may also help to make sure that your cooks have fast and easy access to the Mess Halls. They don't move the food to the canteen until dinnertime is announced. But keep in mind that prisoners will do anything to get into kitchens to get knives and such for weapons - always have metal detectors leading out of kitchens.

56 (max. 20) means you have 20 individual cells for 56 inmates.

Put your storage closer to your kitchen. Cooks don't seem to bother with using ingredients that are already there.

Thank you, Mas Tnega, I got bored after a while building cells and decidided massive holding cells were the way forward. Hopefully bunkbeds or shared cells will be with us soon.
I'll have a play with the storage area and eating times, see what works.
Good point Illanair regarding the solitary inmates - I currently have two of those. I wonder if there'll be a guard in future who brings dinner?

I expect it to be like that eventually, yes. Especially considering how aggressive inmates get when not given their needs. Longer solitary sentences would also be nice. It isn't even a game day at the moment.
