Why won't Sepulveda say the text I want him to?

Postby Thinpaddy » Fri Jan 26, 2007 1:27 pm

Right, if I use this script...

Code: Select all

CamBuildingFocus 2 300 300

Say beginning_start_1
Say beginning_start_2

WaitSay
WaitCam

CamMove start 8
WaitCam

CamReset

...and the following strings_default file in my main Mod directory...

Code: Select all

beginning_start_1 Wow! Look at all these lovely Darwinians...
beginning_start_2 ...I hope they're OK...

...why does Sepulveda just say ERROR (beginning_start_1) followed by ERROR (beginning_start_2) rather than the text I have specified?

Have you tried reloading Darwinia? i.e. quit and restart it? strings_default.txt is only loaded when Darwinia is started. Thus, if you make changes to it after you have started Darwinia, you will get errors. Also, make sure that strings_default.txt ends with a blank line. If it doesn't at least the last line will be truncated.

Are your caps consistent? (i.e. Beginning_Start_1 or beginning_start_1)

Is your file named strings_default ? or strings_default.txt ? What text editor did you use to create it? Are you sure that it is really at .txt , and not .rtf , or some other format?

The file is strings_default.txt, and is definitely just a text file created in Windows NotePad.

Well, without being able to actually play with the files, I am about out of ideas. Is there any chance that you could zip or rar your files up, and email them to me?

EDIT: Got this sorted via email. A word of advice to those that might be curious: Tools -> Folder Options... Under the view tab, uncheck "Hide extensions of known file types". The file's name should be strings.txt , not strings.txt.txt . :)
