Command Darwinians and Conquer Virii

Postby Chibi » Tue Dec 12, 2006 9:21 pm

So, has anybody created a Mod wherein you may actually create these buildings? You build Control Towers, and near them you may create Radar Dishes or Trunk Ports... Extract raw polys from a hill to build a mine which extracts them for you, and then build a cart track system to carry the polys (once you have enough), to an area you wish to build a Refinery... Then you can build advanced buildings like Power Stations and Factories and Yards, and protect them with Laser Fences?

Or is that too complex an idea? Is it something only Dr. Sepul-Vader can do from his master-terminal? Is the system of buildings self-sustaining? Is it designed to undertake evolutionary leaps such as these? How could one define an area where poly-mines may be built, if such is not already within the scope of Darwinia's game engine?

The engine doesn't really support building buildings like that. It would be possible to fake it, using some rather complicated scripting, and swapping mission files around, but it is not supported in engine.

Rather complicated, yes... and how would you place the buildings where you wanted them? It sounds to me like it would just be kinda lame- you wait 5 minutes or you clear out 20 virii and you magically get an incubator. You wait 2 hours and you get a yard and you start getting armours. You wait a day and you get a complete Biosphere/Reciever/Pattern system and you get infinite darwinians.

I think the reason Darwinia is so different is that you cannot do these things. It would be just another RTS. If you want to do that, try modding C+C: Generals or Warcraft 3 or Warhammer 40K instead. It wouldn't completely destroy the feel of those games, and it would be easier to script as well.

xander, don't even suggest it's possible - the thought of that many mission files is scary.
