Next time be sure to state which mod it is... in this case, Insurrection. Xander, its all yours.

(p.s. try looking at the map with the editor and make sure there aren't buildings in the wrong places)

You do realize that the bug report that you have produced (all one line of it) is next to useless, yes? What error is reported? Is a blackbox file produced? Does Darwinia crash as soon as you click on Primary_Core, or do any of the intro scripts fire up first? Also, what version of Darwinia are you playing on what OS? If you use the AAA profile, does it crash? Please, give me some information to go on...

xander

EDIT: M'kay, I just finished playing through Insurrection 1.1.5 with a clean profile. Darwinia did not crash when I started Primary_Core. I was able to play all of the maps up to and including Primary_Core without any crashes. So, to reiterate what I said above:

1) What OS are you using?
2) What version of Darwinia do you have?
3) What version of Insurrection do you have? (1.1.5 is the most recent)
4) Is any error message given? What is that error?
5) Is a blackbox.txt file created? Would you post that, please?
6) Do you have this problem using the AAA profile?

Wow, that's sure gonna get your problem solved fast; smarmy people cursing at me for no reason makes me want to help them!

If you can't give xander details about your system/setup (since the mod works for just about everyone else), then how is he supposed to figure out what your issue is, since noone else has had it? Do you seriously expect him to magically see across space, time, and the internet to mind-meld with your computer and diagnose it Dr. Doolittle style? Noone can help you unless you help them help you, by providing the information they need to narrow down the issue. If you can't even provide the simple info requested, then xander will indeed probably say 'Fuck it all anyway' and not bother helping you.

The internet's the greatest technical invention of the 20th century, but it seems to have ushered in the death of common sense and courtesy to others.

P.S. - Make sure your problem isn't the one listed in this thread.

No one has "told you." Major Cooke tried to offer some advice (the usefulness of which is debatable), and I tried to diagnose the problem itself. If my comment about your original post being next to useless was offensive to you, I apologize -- it wasn't meant to be offensive. If you want your problem solved, however, you are going to have to provide more information. As I said, I just tested the level with the most recent version of Insurrection, and had no problems at all. What this means is that:

(a) You have an older version of Darwinia (for instance, if you are on a Mac, there are somethings that won't work, though I don't think there is anything special about Primary_Core).

(b) You are playing an older version of Insurrection. If you are playing an older version, let me know which version it is, so that I can unarchive it and see what the problem is. I probably won't be able to fix it, but if I can, it means you won't have to start all over again. Knowing what version you are playing could also help me to narrow down the problem. Also, If you changed versions in the middle of the game, there is a good chance that it will cause the game to crash, as profiles from anything prior to 1.1.0 are incompatable with 1.1.0+. I think that profiles from 1.1.0+ should all be more or less intercompatable, however.

(c) You are playing on a different OS than I am, and this is causing problems. While I know of only a few bugs or quirks that only affect one OS, I have found a couple of them in Insurrection. It is possible that you have stumbled across another. Knowing what the quirk is helps me, but it also helps Chris, who may want to address that problem in the next patch.

(d) Finally, it is possible that your profile just became corrupt. Maybe you tried to play some other mod or the original scenario with the same profile. Maybe your hard drive has bad sectors. I don't know -- it is possible, though unlikely. As I said, without any information, I can't help you.

So, as I said, I would like to help. I would like to help you solve your problem. However, there is nothing that I can do without a description of the problem...

Pandora's Black Snatch

Postby EzekielOL » Wed Apr 12, 2006 12:59 am

Well I'll be dipped in dog shit!
My response was meant to be funny!
What the hell is a black box anyway? It sounds like a bad porno movie from the 70's. ie. Pandora's Black Box. Chicks didn't shave back then...ewwwwww I thought I had read about others with a problem on this level, but it was ages ago and I couldn't find the posts.
At any rate I have Windows XP, SP2, up to date.
I have the Steam version of Darwinia, so I think it is updated automatically.
I am unable to determine the version of Insurrection that I have.
The error message I get is "Darwinia.exe has experienced a problem and needs to shut dowm...."
What the hell is an AAA profile? I have a drinking problem, but I am not an alcoholic! *hic*
Here is her black box in all of her splendor.....

The blackbox on an airplane is a device that records all of the flight data about that plane. If the plane crashes, it can help investigators reconstruct what caused the plane to crash. In a similar manner, Darwinia creates blackbox files when it crashes (most of the time). This file can help me, or someone else, figure out what is going wrong.

The blackbox that you have posted indicates that you have run out of memory. This is a very common problem, related to Hardware 3D Sound, and Realtime FX. Make sure that both of those are turned off. However, I don't think that is the problem that you are having -- I think that your blackbox is an old one.

AAA is the AccessAllAreas profile -- the one that Dr. S gives to you at the end of the game. I asked you to try that, as it might narrow down the problem a bit. If the AAA profile also causes Darwinia to crash, then there is a problem with the mission or the map. If it does not cause Darwinia to crash, then I can only assume that the problem is with your profile. Once I have it narrowed down that far, I may be able to figure out what is going on.

And, as I said, you should probably make sure that you have the most recent version of Insurrection, though it probably doesn't matter, as I haven't changed Primary_Core since 1.1.0...

Almost there...

Postby ManE » Fri Sep 08, 2006 12:32 am

Hi there.
After good time spent on the mod, and having sent 2 engeneers towards the two trunk ports in Annihilation (Primary Core & Back Door),
fate opted for primary core to be opened first.
As the level automatically loaded I got the same crash as posted above, I think there were solutions in another post,
but so far have spent very little time with the editor, don't know how to reduce the number of darwinians in a group.
As far as I could notice, it's the effect of having the darwinians "come out" of the annihilation trunk port that causes the crash.
It looks very nice, as I've always wondered when the trunk ports were going to make at least look as they did something in-level,
but I'm afraid it crashes the level on me. Does that make any sense to you guys? Or is there an official fix?

PS Have latest version of mod and game, on win 2000

Okay, I hate to sound like a broken record, but what versions are you using? "The latest version" doesn't tell me much. This thread talks about version 1.1.5 of Insurrection, while the most recent version is 1.1.7. Is that the version you are using?

Now, the problem that other people were having was with turrets and AIs. If there is an AI unit in a level, and a group of red DGs try to take a turret, Darwinia will crash. In 1.1.7, I have removed the AI, so that shouldn't be the cause of the crash.

Also, is there a blackbox file created?

Oi... I'm an idiot. That blackbox file indicates that you ran out of memory. This is caused by a well documented bug with Realtime FX. I see from your blackbox that Realtime FX is enabled. Disable it. That should fix the problem. Quite frankly, I am suprised you got through Pattern_Buffer and Biosphere without crashing, let alone the early levels of Insurrection.
