Try this.

1. Create a location with blue darwinians
2. Create an identical copies of your darwinia folder.
3. In the copy, modify the following parameters in the preferences file
ServerAddress=<your ip address>
Iamaserver=0
SoundLibrary=software
4. Run darwinia from both the original and the copy.
5. Enter the location in both running darwinia.exe.
6. Watch the blue darwinians run around.

ooo, neat

But it is a bit harder on the Mac -- you will have to start the game with two different user accounts.

Oddly enough, the only blues I have ever managed to kill was an anthill with blue ants. They staying within since they couldn't move, etc. The anthill wasn't touched, but blue souls did float up from it, so I assumed they died. Blue triffids work fine if you don't mind blue triffid eggs floating in the air.

All the other blue units just simply fail to move at all in singleplayer.

Do blue darwinians fight the red darwinians or are they allies with the virus?

As noted before, if you're using them by spawning them using AI Spawnpoints and you've not set up two clients, then no, everyone ignores them.
